Brown Bomber |
Blaziken is one of the most diverse Pokemon to grace the Advance
generation.
The fiery chicken wounds a lot of standards such as Snorlax,
Metagross, and
Tyranitar, and acts as a counter to Skarmbliss, which
inexperienced players dread
and experienced players are annoyed by. Although Blaziken
suffers from the Fire
type, which has common weaknesses, and has a severe weakness to
the
Salamence and Zapdos that are dominating the metagame,
Blaziken's base 120
Attack, 110 Special Attack, and huge movepool make up for this.
Blaziken can pull
off roles as a mixed sweeper, physical sweeper, special sweeper,
Choice Bander,
or even a Reversal Pokemon. If your opponent is used to a
stagnant metagame,
Blaziken will keep him on his toes.
Blaziken (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spd
Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Fire Blast/Overheat
- Rock Slide
- Sky Uppercut
- Swords Dance
This is the standard mixed sweeper Blaziken. Send it out against
Skarmory,
Blissey, or Metagross to force a switch, Swords Dance on the
switch, and begin
sweeping. 176 Speed EVs give Blaziken 240 Speed, allowing it to
outspeed base
70 Speed Pokemon such as Breloom and Magneton without a speed
boost. Since
Blaziken has primarily physical attacks, its Attack is maxed
out, and the rest of
the EVs are dumped in HP for 1 more HP than a multiple of 16.
If you want a faster Blaziken, use the following EV spread:
EVs: 16 HP / 240 Atk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
This EV spread gives Blaziken 284 Speed, allowing it to tie with
maximum Speed
Medicham. It also outspeeds Adamant Heracross and base 70 Speed
Pokemon.
16 HP gives it 305 HP for 1 more HP than a multiple of 16, while
the remaining
EVs are used to pump its massive Attack.
Blaziken (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Sky Uppercut
- Rock Slide
- Focus Punch
- Overheat
Choice Band Blaziken; in my opinion, this is the most effective
Blaziken. Unlike
most Choice Banders, Blaziken can effectively kill Skarmory with
a STABed Fire
attack. Overheat is used over Fire Blast since Choice Banders
want to inflict as
much damage as possible. Also, since most Choice Banders switch
frequently, the
Special Attack decrease isn't as important. Focus Punch catches
Pokemon on the
switch, Rock Slide makes Salamence and Gyarados cry, and Sky
Uppercut is there
as an alternative physical attack.
Since Blaziken wants to hit hard and run, a simple 252/252/4
spread that
prioritizes Attack and Speed will suffice.
Blaziken (M) @ Salac Berry
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 176 Spd / 80 SAtk
Hasty Nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Endure/Substitute
- Rock Slide/Swords Dance/Focus Punch
- Overheat
- Reversal
Reversal Blaziken, one of the best Reversal Pokemon in the game.
Use
Endure/Swords Dance and Substitue/Focus Punch in tandem. If
using
Endure/Swords Dance, Swords Dance while your opponent switches
to another
Pokemon, endure a killing blow, and have Salac Berry activate;
if using
Substitute/Focus Punch, use Substitute until Blaziken is at 1
HP, allowing Salac
Berry to activate. When Blaziken is at low HP, Blaze activates,
allowing you to
finish off physical walls such as Skarmory and Weezing with a
STAB'ed Blaze
Overheat. Rock Slide is there for harming Salamence and Weezing.
Blaziken has 264 Speed; when Salac Berry activates, Blaziken's
Speed is increased
to 396, allowing it to outspeed all non-uber Pokemon except
Electrode and
Ninjask. 252 Attack EVs allow it to inflict maximum damage with
Reversal. The
remaining EVs are placed in Special attack so that you can kill
physical walls with
Overheat and since Reversal Blaziken doesn't need any HP.
Blaziken (M) @ Leftovers **Critiken
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spd
Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Focus Energy
- Blaze Kick
- Sky Uppercut
- Rock Slide
Critiken, a novelty Blaziken. Use Focus Energy to increase your
critical hit rate,
then "hax" by gaining critical hits with Blaze Kick almost all
of the time. Since luck
plays a large role while using NetBattle, this Blaziken can
inflict decent damage to
your opponent.
Blaziken (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 78 HP / 180 Spd / 252 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Sky Uppercut
- Thunderpunch
- Hidden Power [Ice/Grass]
- Fire Blast
Special Blaziken, one of the more interesting Blaziken. Use Fire
Blast for
Skarmory, Forretress, and Steelix, knock Gyarados out of the sky
with
Thunderpunch, and Sky Uppercut Blissey or Snorlax if they try to
halt Blaziken.
HP Ice is for Salamence, while HP Grass is for Swampert. If
using HP Grass, use
a 72 HP/176 Speed/252 SAtk spread. There are better special
sweepers;
however, most people expect Blaziken to be a physical or mixed
sweeper, so this
set can catch people off guard.
Blaziken is extremely fragile, so don't switch it into any heavy
blows and expect it
to survive. However, if you can switch Blaziken in safely, it
can proceed to
demolish your opponent's team or eliminate their key Pokemon.
Keep your
opponent guessing with Blaziken; while they're trying to figure
out what moveset
you have, start wailing on their Pokemon.
Although Blaziken is classified as an OU (overused) Pokemon, it
is rarely seen in
the metagame today. Try using Blaziken if you want a change;
you'll be amazed
at how well it performs in the standard metagame.
