Pojo's Pokemon of the Week

Metang

Date Reviewed: 03.17.06

Ratings & Reviews Summary: 2.65

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale.
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.  5 is the highest rating.

Brown Bomber Metang sucks; use Metagross instead. They share the same movepool, and
Metagross has better stats to abuse it. Only use Metang in PokeRealm's non-
evolved tournaments.

Metang @ Choice Band
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Sludge Bomb/Rock Slide/Shadow Ball
- Explosion

A crappy version of Choice Band Metagross, the best Metagross. Metang's base
75 Attack pales in comparison to Metagross's 135 base Attack, and Metang
doesn't have the defensive stats of Metagross to withstand blows from other physical sweepers.
Speed isn't necessary for this sturdy Choice Bander; just max out its Attack and give it a defensive spread for
its remaining EVs so that it can act as a Normal/Flying Resistance for your team.

Metang @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 10 HP / 252 Atk / 248 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Agility
- Earthquake
- Meteor Mash
- Explosion

A crappy version of the old-school Agiligross (Agility Metagross). Use Agility to
sharply boost Metang's speed; with 198 Speed, it can outspeed Timid Jolteon and
Jolly Aerodactyl (at 394 Speed), and proceed to sweep with a STABed Meteor
Mash. When you come up against a bulky water Pokemon like Suicune or Milotic,
simply explode. Unfortunately, Metang doesn't pull this off nearly as well as its
evolution, since it is weaker defensively.

Metang @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Def / 192 SAtk
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Thunderpunch
- Earthquake/Psychic/Hidden Power [Fire]
- Meteor Mash
- Explosion

A crappy version of mixed Metagross. Emerald gave the Metagross line
Thunderpunch and Ice Punch. Ice Punch is unecessary, since Meteor Mash
eliminates most Dragons; however, Thunderpunch takes care of one of Metang's
greatest nemesises, Skarmory. Unfortunately, while Metagross can 2HKO
Skarmory with its base 95 Special Attack, Thunderpunch is a pathetic 3HKO on
Metang. Psychic takes out Weezing (although it can burn Metang with Will-o-Wisp
first, crippling its physical attacks), while HP Fire also takes out Skarmory and
steels such as Forretress. Use Metagross for this set.

Metang @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Earthquake
- Meteor Mash
- Sleep Talk

A crappy version of Sleep Talking Metagross. With decent HP and a bulky
defense, Metagross can simply Rest off physical damage while smashing your
opponent with its 130 base Attack through Sleep Talk. It can easily switch into
Breloom's Spore or Milotic's Hypnosis, and Weezing's Will-o-Wisp is rendered
useless while Metagross is sleeping. However, Metang's defenses are sub-par,
and it can't survive Dugtrio Earthquakes like its evolution.

Metang is sadly inferior to Metagross. Its evolution is a nice Gengar counter,
withstands blows from Dodrio and Tauros with its Steel typing, and is one of the
deadliest Choice Banders in the game; its Explosion takes out a weakened
Skarmory! It has decent attacking stats on both ends, allowing it to pull off mixed
movesets. Although it has a nasty weakness to the ever-common Earthquake
and bulky waters make it run, some common support such as Snorlax can help
out this guy. Metagross is an excellent sweeper, and one of the most dominant
Pokemon in the metagame.

Metang, however, has weak attacking stats, can't take a blow from heavy hitters
defensively, and doesn't look nearly as cool as its arachnid-like evolution. Use
Metagross; evolve this guy or use it in the occasional non-evolved tournament,
please.

Sorry that I couldn't review Swampert last week; I was busy. However, I can
safely say that Take Down sucks on mixed Swampert; use Rest, Focus Punch for
Blissey, or Roar for getting rid of Ninjask and electrics with Hidden Power Ice
instead of it.

Peace Out,
Brown Bomber

Playdoh
Dude
This week we are reviewing Metang.  Metang, in all honesty, is not something that should be on EVERY early game team, in fact it's impossible besides trading, but is very useful. Steel is an awesome type, with good resistances, and some pretty okay weaknesses, and Psychic is good too.
Metang can learn many TM and HM moves. Like always, most of the HM moves are useless unless you need them for caves or Victory Road.  But don't forget the TM's! Alot of them aren't good for Metang either, like Rain Dance.
Metang can function as a early game sweeper, or just a happy beatstick. He is most useful when he has at least one Psychic attack, and at least one power attack from the steel or normal type. Also, a stat increasing move is useful. I like Double Team, because it insures for a hard time for your opponent. After a couple uses it becomes very hard to hit your Metang.

Thanks for keeping up for me through my first review. Expect more from Mr. PlaydohDude! Time for the actual scores!

RSEFRLG score: 3.5

You guy's keep on rollin',

Reeve Metang.
#375.
Type: Steel.
Ability: Clear body.
Locations: Evolve Beldum (level 20); download from Pokémon Rocks America Tour.

Hi everyone. This is Reeve, welcome to my first Pokémon of the Week review, hope you all like it ;)

So we have Metang. My first impression; why Metang and not Metagross? I should try to analyze Metang as a Metagross... Believe me; you want to evolve it if you want a competitive battle Pokémon…

Steel type means High Defense, so you could use it as a tank. But wait! It has very good attack, so you want to take advantage of that… A physical attacker is the best choice BUT you got to work on its speed, and for that we have Agility (learned at level 56). Plus, if you want even more speed you should have your Metang equipped with Salac Berry, so you won’t be afraid of the speed issue anymore… It learns the most- impressive attack Meteor Mash and has the Clear Body ability (Metang’s stats can’t be lowered and you shouldn’t be afraid of the Intimidate ability anymore).

Now, the suggested Move Combination for this Pokémon; pure attack…

Metang.
Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack).
Equip: Liechi Berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Special Defense, 129 HP.
- Meteor Mash (pure-power, no doubt about it).
- Earthquake (great in both double and single battles).
- Sludge bomb (for Ludicolo or Sceptile).
- Agility (Very important move, period).

You could even change Sludge bomb for Rock slide (bye Gyarados), Shadow ball (not afraid of ghosts anymore), Explosion (surprise!) or even substitute (more Agility means advantage for you). This move combination is very simple to use. You want to start using agility, then attack with whatever you want. Wait for your Liechi berry to activate and then continue attacking. Explosion + Liechi berry = Kaboom.

When should I use this Pokémon?
You want to use it against Curselax (Curse Snorlax). Metagross can handle that. I’m not sure about Metang but I guess it might work… Use it against Gyarados as well. Clear body prevents Intimidate and Rock slide will K.O. our friend Gyarados. Same goes for Sludge bomb and Ludicolo.

What should I use against this Pokémon?
A strong Special Attacker Pokémon with Fire Blast/Overheat. Typical examples are Salamence, Charizard or even Alakazam with Fire punch... There are some others like Blaziken. Try to use type advantage, use special attackers and you’ll have better results.…

Bottom line:
Again, a very powerful Pokémon if evolved. Metagross is the best Steel Pokémon out there and you should try it. Easy to use and very effective… Not a lot to say about Metang, it’s almost the same but weaker =/

Rating: 2/5 (just because it is not fully evolved. But if you evolve it, it should get like a 4/5).

Hope you enjoyed.
