Charizard Review
ZOMG IT'S CHARIZARD!!!!1!!
Charizard is one of the most fanboyish Pokemon in the game,
which has caused it to be one of the most loved and hated
Pokemon among the fanbase. Little kids with Blast
Burn/Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Overheat Charizards that are
convinced they are the best have tarnished Charizard's good
name, causing the Pokemon to be despised among some people of
the fanbase who feel that Charizard is creating a bad name for
Pokemon. It's too bad, because he's cool, and effective in
battle too.
Charizard (M) @ Salac Berry
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 56 Def / 176 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Belly Drum
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Earthquake/Rock Slide
- Fire Blast/Overheat
The basic Belly Drumming set, and the best. Get Charizard to a
little over half of its health, Belly Drum while your opponent
switches (or anticipate the AI's actions if you're playing
in-game), have Salac activated, and sweep with 1172 Attack and a
Blaze, STAB fire attack. Earthquake is for Rocks like Rhydon
while Rock Slide trips up Salamence and Gyarados. This set
requires a fair amount of prediction; if you can't predict, use
the second set. Unfortunately, due to Zard's mediocre attack, it
isn't guaranteed to kill bulky waters with HP Flying, so watch
out.
Charizard (M) @ Salac Berry
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 52 Def / 176 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Belly Drum
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Substitute
- Fire Blast/Earthquake/Rock Slide
If you're not keen on prediction but want Belly Drum anyway, try
this set. Switch in on a Skarmory or Pokemon weak to Fire or
Flying, Sub on the switch, Belly Drum, trigger Salac, and sweep.
(Read: Smeargle does a better job.) You're limited to one
physical attack or lose the ability to hit Skarm with this set,
though, so I recommend the first set for all of your needs.
Charizard (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 12 HP / 136 Atk / 108 Spd / 252 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Claw
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Focus Punch
Special Charizard for special people. =D Focus Punch OHKOs
standard Tyranitars, 2HKOs Blissey, and has a chance of 2HKOing
Laxen. Dragon Claw isn't guaranteed to kill Dragons, sadly, so
don't complain when Kingdra (which sucks) sweeps you or when
Sala Rock Slides Charizard to death.
Charizard (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 32 HP / 232 Atk / 244 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Hidden Power [Flying]
- Earthquake/Rock Slide
- Fire Blast/Overheat
If you're paranoid about Belly Drum and hate the special set.
Charizard won't be getting far with base 84 Attack, I tell you.
Dragon Dance isn't mentioned because Charizard is fairly fast
and Dragon Dance won't do enough to boost his Attack.
Charizard (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Flying]
I haven't tried this, but it looks decent on paper. Basically,
predict your opponent's actions and rip him a new one with
Charizard's physical attacks. Due to its fire typing, Charizard
absorbs Will-o-Wisps from Weezing and smacks it and Skarmory
with STABed Fire Blasts. This is an "original" set, so all of
you people that bash standards only because you suck and can't
win can use this set so you can feel "unique". =D Again, base 84
Attack doesn't make for Choice Banding that well.
Counters: Any bulky water (i.e.Suicune, Milotic, Swampert) can
switch in easily and own Charizard with a water attack.
Unfortunately, Charizard won't necessarily OHKO Waters with HP
Flying after a Belly Drum. Aerodactyl can swoop in and OHKO it
with Rock Slide; Zapdos is a good counter; Gyarados has fun
dominating Zard; Rhydon can Rock Slide it to death; Blissey and
Snorlax take dumps on the special version.
Opinion: Charizard is a usable Pokemon in OU play and is worth a
spot on your team if you can make room for him (by countering
bulky waters and certain fliers). If you want to unleash your
fanboyish desires or simply want to use a cool Pokemon, try
using Charizard! It's fun! And if you use , give me credit. =D

Playdoh
Dude
You all thought I was dead, didn't you? Well, I'm not. And I'm
back for a review. Last one since Skarmory, actually. Well, I've
been really busy writing up Yugioh articles, btu I recently quit
Yugioh to spend more time on Pokemon and to start Naruto. By the
way, Naruto is a great game. You guys should try it.
Anyway, I'm finally back to review Charizard.
One of teh best fire pokemon without a doubt. It has been argued
many a time to which fire pokemon is better: Charizard or
Arcanine. Charizard has double weakness, but he has better stats
in my opinion. Charizard is well rounded, stats wise, but it
really shines in the Speed and Special Attack areas. But
Charizard is a fire type, so Special Attack is needed for his
big pyrotechnics.
Like I said before, Charizard ahs double weakness. This really
stinks, as it would have been a nice water counter as just
flying(as long as it kept it's speed and switched Special Attack
with Attack). It would have made a nice electric counter if it
were just Fire. But sadly, THOSE WON'T HAPPEN! The worst attack
to get from an opposing pokemon is rock. This is a tough spot to
get out of, so just switch it for a grass or wate rpokemon. Yous
houdl be fine after
that. Just heal him up and send him out!
Overall, Charizard is simply amazing. He has amazing stats, plus
his attack lineup isn't too shabby either! He definitely
deserves a 90/100 rating.
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re
reviewing the big winged lizard itself. One of the best
starters; Charizard.
Just as Snorlax, this guy has a tremendous amount of attack. But
it is also good for special sweeping. It’s a fire/flying type,
so it is 4x weak to rock attacks. But hey, no one’s perfect. As
I said before, this one’s compared to Snorlax not just because
its attack, but because it is an ideal belly drummer as well.
Its ability is the same as other fire starters. Powers up fire
attacks… Not too great.
Now, for the move combination, we’re reviewing two; the belly
drummer and the special sweeper.
If you manage to get Salac and belly drum, you’re going to win.
Simple and very, very powerful… If you don’t like belly drum (I
don’t), try swords dance…
Charizard.
Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special Attack).
Equip: Salac berry.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 6 HP.
- Dragon claw
- Flamethrower
- HP grass
- Sunny day
Not much to say… You could even use Overheat for Flamethrower,
but use it only if you really need a fire move…
When should I use this Pokémon?
As your main physical sweeper. It’s very powerful, more than the
special sweeper. Just remember the rock weakness…
What should I use against this Pokémon?
I guess another physical sweeper would work… A tank like
Blastoise would work great as well. Just remember, as always,
speed is your best friend against powerful Pokémon.
Bottom line:
I’d say one of the most used fire types. I like it…
Rating:
3.5/5
Hope you enjoyed.
