Arcanine.
# 059.
Type: Fire.
Ability: Intimidate/ Flash fire.
Locations: Evolve Growlithe.
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re
reviewing a beautiful but sometimes useless Pokémon; Arcanine.
Poor doggy, its stats are good enough, but the big problem with
this one is its move pool. I mean, come on, this one leaves us
with very few effective combinations (not to say none) for a
competitive battle environment. It has more physical than
special attack, so being a fire type isn’t something that great
either.
I’ll recommend Intimidate as your doggie’s ability, just because
no one is going to hit Arcanine with fire.
Now, we’re going to have two move combinations for this one. A
physical and a special attacker. Each one has its own “strategy”
so let’s see…
Arcanine.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.
- Howl
- HP ground
- Extremespeed
- Overheat
Use Howl a couple times and extremespeed as your main attack
when predicting a switch, HP ground for something else and
Overheat just for emergencies.
Arcanine.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.
- Sunny day
- Overheat
- Crunch
- HP grass
Same as above but using special attacks. Sunny day and sweep.
Not as effective as the first combination, but might work if
used with caution.
When should I use this Pokémon?
I’ll leave that to you, if you want to use one of these sets,
use the first one because it has good chances against more
Pokémon than the second set.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
So many of them out there… Use ghosts against the first set and
waters against the second one, mainly. But there are a lot of
choices like Dugtrio and Gengar…
Bottom line:
Such a shame… Very good concept of a Pokémon, but with a very
poor move pool, you’re not going to see this one in many
tournaments…
Rating:
2.2/5
Hope you enjoyed.
