Rhyperior.
# 464.
Type: Ground / Rock.
Ability: Lightning rod / Solid rock.
Locations: Evolve from Rhydon (Diamond, Pearl).
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the
Week. Today we’re reviewing Rhyperior, the Drill Pokémon.
I always wanted Rhydon to evolve just because it
wasn’t good enough back in the old days. Now it’s a reality and
it looks very nice. I really don’t use rock types a lot, but
Rhyperior is definitely one of my current experiments. You’ll
see later.
As you might guess, we want solid rock as our
ability, with this damage by super effective moves is halved,
and that’s a big deal, one of the best abilities out there.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see
what’s up with this guy…
Rhyperior.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Defense, 129 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge / Rock cannon / Rock slide / Rock
blast
- Mega horn / Thunder fang
- Ice fang/ Avalanche / Mega horn
It has the potential to reach more than 400 ATK
points. Leftovers and solid rock is going to give you some extra
turns to sweep. I’d suggest using the elemental fangs, effective
against water and plant types. Earthquake and Stone edge will
hit very hard.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Choice band / Life orb.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Defense, 6 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge
- Mega horn
- Ice fang/ Avalanche
I’ll let you choose, if you don’t like choice
band, use life orb. Both are effective. Choice bander needs more
battling experience, so if you are just looking for easy power
management, use life orb and sweep.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Impish (+ Defense, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 6 Attack, 252 Defense, 252 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge
- Mega horn / Thunder fang / Avalanche
- Swords dance
Yes, Rhinos can dance too and they are pretty
good at it. Solid rock gives you some turns to boost your
attack. If you are against a physical sweeper you will have a
good amount of time to have an unstoppable sweeper.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers / Passho berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge
- Mega horn / Ice fang / Avalanche / Thunder fang
- Rock polish
Passho berry for water attacks, and to earn some
turns while we make Rhydon faster than other potential issues.
Not to hard to use.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Defense, 129 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge / Rock slide
- Substitute
- Focus punch
Substi-puncher Rhyperior is good, not as good as
the first sets, but decent and powerful enough.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Defense, 129 HP.
- Earthquake
- Stone edge / Rock slide
- Avalanche / Thunder fang / Substitute
- Curse
Curse and substitute give you even more turns to
sweep, but I’d go with curse and thunder fang, as water types
are very common.
Rhyperior.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Salac berry.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.
- Reversal
- Stone edge / Rock slide
- Rock polish
- Endure
My most recent set, use rock polish as much as
you can, then endure once you feel like you are going to faint
and let the berry activate. With that gargantuan amount of
speed, just use Reversal as much as you can, stone edge is there
just in case you face a ghost type.
When should I use this Pokémon?
If you are like me, you want to try new physical
sweepers with cool abilities. Rhyperior is not very popular for
some reason, maybe because it is hard to train properly and not
very good if not fully evolved. But believe me, if you manage to
properly train it, you will have an amazing sweeper for you to
use, it’s important to remember that one Pokémon is no guarantee
for you to win a battle, you need a balanced team, that’s a
general rule.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Claydol is a decent option, it won’t OHKO
Rhyperior, but will stand for some turns just not letting
Rhyperior do its job. A boosted water type as starmie will
probably be good enough to beat it. Ghost types are good too and
status conditions are you best friends against this.
Bottom line:
We don’t see 7 sets every wee do we? I hope you
liked at least one, so you give it a shot, it’s worth it.
