Glaceon.
# 471.
Type: Ice.
Ability: Snow cloak.
Locations: Evolve Eevee. (Diamond, Pearl).
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the
Week. Today we’re reviewing Glaceon, the Fresh snow Pokémon.
Glaceon is the new special sweeper Eevee
evolution, Ice is a pretty uncommon and kind of vulnerable type,
but overall its ability balances things. It has a decent speed
and special attack, defense is ok and move pool is decent as
well, it is a very specific Pokémon for very specific
situations, but overall useable.
Snow cloak is great. It raises evasion during
hailstorm and that’s where you take advantage of specific
situations. If you are using a hail team or just use hail at any
point your opponent will either take the risk of failing or
switching. Most opponents would attack anyway, but if you are
winning they will probably switch, and then you will have an
extra turn (for switching, attacking or whatever), as I said
before, is all about specific situations, whenever you need an
extra turn you can earn it this way.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see
what’s up with this guy…
Glaceon.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Petaya berry.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 129 Defense, 129
Special defense.
- Ice beam
- Shadow ball
- HP fire
- Water pulse / Hyper beam
This is the standard sweeper and easiest set to
use. If you are starting to use it or you are a general Pokémon
novice try this one first. Sweep and use hyper bean when
necessary, no need to switch a lot with this one.
Glaceon.
Nature: Calm (+ Special defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Defense, 129 Special defense, 129
Special attack.
- Ice beam
- Shadow ball
- Substitute
- Wish
The pseudo-healer set is fairly easy to use. Just
sweep and then use substitute-wish combo. Glaceon is not that
fast, so keep that in mind and watch your timing when using it.
Glaceon.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Icy rock.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 HP, 6 Speed.
- Blizzard
- Shadow ball
- HP fire/ Water pulse
- Hail
This is the one I told you about some lines ago.
If you use hail and your opponent know you have blizzard. Either
he/she will risk or if in disadvantage, will switch for sure. So
use hail, then sweep. I’d go for HP fire but if you can’t get it
water pulse is a decent move as well.
Glaceon.
Nature: Careful (+ Special defense, - Special
attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 252 Special defense, 6 Attack.
- Curse
- Avalanche
- Tickle / Yawn / Mirror coat / Protect
- Ice shard / Wish / Last resort / Toxic
I know some of you think thare are a lot of
special sweepers already, and you are right. Here is a physical
variation of Glaceon, and with some variant for you to choose
whichever you like the most. I’d go for yawn and toxic for the
last moves but try the ones the fit better with your style and
needs.
When should I use this Pokémon?
In your casual Eevee team. But if you are going
to use it competitively I’d suggest using it in doubles along
with Abomasnow as your opening pair. Then things will get
interesting. It is ok as your standard special sweeper.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
For what I’ve seen so far, thick fat Snorlax and
Miltanks are two major problems for Glaceon, if you see one of
these switch or force them to switch. Steel and fighting types
are also good against this one, especially if they are fast
enough.
Bottom line:
I like this one, but I have to say it is not
comparable to Jolteon as special sweeper…
Rating:
3/5
