Infernape.

# 392.

Type: Fire / Fighting.

Ability: Blaze.

Locations: Evolve Monferno.

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re finally reviewing Infernape, the flame Pokémon.

Infernape is surely one of the most offensive Pokémon of the new gen. It has enough speed and attack to be successfully used in competitive battles. As any other fire starter, it’s kind of hard to use in early game, but if you train this one well it will sure be a powerful physical sweeper. It is capable of learning swords dance and nasty plot so this one is capable of doing massive damage.

Blaze is still the same starter ability, sometimes useful; sometimes you would like to have something different on a starter.

Let’s move on to the move combinations. New moves for new Pokémon, let’s see what’s up with this guy…

Infernape.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Salac berry.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Flare blitz

- Stone edge / Earthquake

- Swords dance

- Brick break / Close combat

This will depend on your strategy. You might not want to use Close combat because of the side effect. If you baton pass some defense to this you will be safe. Stone edge or Earthquake is up to you, I know I would pick Stone edge

Infernape.

Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).

Equip: Choice scarf.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Flare blitz

- Stone edge / Earthquake

- Thunderpunch

- Brick break / Close combat

This is almost the same ting but choice scarf has proven to be an awesome item. More speed and a decent attack power is going to give Infernape one or two victims before fainting if used properly.

Infernape.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Life orb.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Flare blitz

- Stone edge

- Earthquake

- Close combat

Life orb is an item you will be seeing a lot in competitive battles. Give more power to Infernape and it will be pretty good. I have seen some people using U-turn in this set. It works quite well too.

There is also the special sweeper Infernape but I wouldn’t recommend it because this thing is way better in physical than in special sweeping. But if you really want to try it I’ll list it…

Infernape.

Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).

Equip: Wisdom glasses.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Flamethrower

- Grass knot

- HP Ice

- Nasty plot

Not very common, but works fine too…

When should I use this Pokémon?

If you liked the way Blaziken performed last generation (and I did), this one is an extension of it. Blaziken was a better substitute/reversal user than sweeper. This one is a better sweeper so you might want to try it.

What should I use against this Pokémon?

Aerodactyl is good against Infernape because Earthquake will do nothing, fire and grass attacks won’t OHKO it and has a solid attack. A good water sweeper will take this out too. Probably Milotic would be a good option.

Bottom line:

I haven’t finished training mine, but it is for sure another good Pokémon to the list.

Remember, if you have DP versions and want to trade or battle with me. I already have a list of haves and want here in the Pojo Forums; the URL is http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=434041 for trading (have some good shinies and legendaries, and all the starters as well). If you want to battle then send me a PM or send an e-mail to reeve.ryu@gmail.com.

Rating:

3.5/5

Hope you enjoyed.

Reeve.

lilgroudon Howdy, all, and welcome to another week. I hope you all made it in one piece. This week, we will be reviewing Infernape, the Flaming Monkey.

Infernape
Fighting/Fire
Ability: Blaze (When Infernape's HP gets low, its Fire type attack's power is multiplied by 1.5) Base Stats:
HP: 76
Atk: 104
Def: 71
SpAtk: 104
SpDef: 71
Spd: 108

Now things are getting good. Infernape is, as you already might have guessed, the Fire starter, and the second Fire starter in a row to have Fighting/Fire typing. As to who is better, it really is up to you. I, for one, feel that Infernape is better, seeing as how it can sweep either side of the fence, and doesn't rely on Choice Scarf to be fast. Now for the movesets:

Infernape@Life Orb
Jolly Nature (SpAtk-, Spd+)/Timid Nature (Atk-, Spd+)
Atk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6/SpAtk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6 -Flare Blitz/Fire Blast/Flamethrower -Close Combat/Focus Blast/HP Fighting/Grass Knot -U-turn/Focus Blast/HP Fighting/Grass Knot -Stone Edge/Substitute

Lots of choices here. Obviously, the first Nature goes with the first spread, and the second Nature with the second spread. I did not list everything that Infernape learns, as that would take up too much space, but you can see that he has a far more varied Physical move pool than Special. Both are viable, but the Physical side has a little more variaty. If you can get HP Fighting, then use it, but if not, Focus Blast is your only Special Fighting option. Grass Knot because Solarbeam sucks on a non-Sunnybeaming set. Substitute because I couldn't think of anything else, and Calm Mind doesn't really work on this set. On the Physical side, he also has Iron Tail, Earthquake, Aerial Ace, Shadow Claw, Poison Jab, and Thunderpunch. Really, just pick Flare Blitz, Close Combat, and 2 other moves, and you have a set.

Infernape@Choice Band
Jolly Nature (SpAtk-, Spd+)
Atk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6
-Flare Blitz
-Close Combat
-Stone Edge/U-turn/Iron Tail/Earthquake/Aerial Ace/Shadow Claw/Poison Jab/Thunderpunch -Stone Edge/U-turn/Iron Tail/Earthquake/Aerial Ace/Shadow Claw/Poison Jab/Thunderpunch

OH NOES, IT'S THE SAME SET AS BEFORE!!!! I personally enjoy Stone Edge and Earthquake, sometimes switching Earthquake with U-turn for a change of pace.

Infernape@Choice Specs
Timid Nature (Atk-, Spd+)
SpAtk: 252, Spd: 252, HP: 6
-Fire Blast/Flamethrower
-HP Fighting/Focus Blast
-Grass Knot
-Overheat

Now, before you go and kill me for including 2 of the same type attack, let me explain. Now, if Infernape had a larger move pool, then there would be another type attack here, but he doesn't. Instead, I took a page out of Salamence's book. On a CSMence, you have both Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor. Draco Meteor is for early game, and Dragon Pulse is for late game, as you are cleaning up. Fire Blast/Flamethrower and Overheat act in much the same way, only a little less effectively, as it is resisted by more types. If you anticipate a Water switch in, use Grass Knot. Simple, no?

Well, there you have it. I probably missed some sets, and for that, I am sorry. But I think I crossed the gambit when it comes to movesets.
Infernape can sweep entire teams if they have no counter, and is a grade-A addition to any team, barring Sandstorm/Rain Dance.

Overall: 5/5
Looks: 3/5 (I think that this is the weakest, look wise, of the 3 starters.)
Carbunkle Man, another month before we can get D/P here in Europe.
But it wont stop me for reviewing 1 pokemon in the 4th generation ;)

This week it's a monkey, yeah, you heard me, a freaking monkey.

Name: Infernape
Ability: Blaze
Type: Fire/Fightning
Nature: Lonely (+Atk, -Def)
Item: Choise Band
EV's: 252 Atk, 252 Speed (HP)

Ability is as always on the starter pokemon, get down to 1/3 of life and
fire is powered.
Nature for hard hitting stuff. Same with the EV, and so it will be fast.
Item is to power up the attack it will use.
He has weakness against water, psychic, ground and flying we can make him
strong and fast to outrun those.

Attacks:
1) Close Combat
2) Protect
3) Thunder Punch
4) Fire Blitz

Well, Strategy time.
Protect if you somehow know that your opponent is gonna use a big strong
attack.
Close Combat is a fighting move so use it, get the bad stuff from it and
just watch the enemies life go down.
Thunder Punch for those water/flying enemies, no need to tell you more.
Fire Blitz is a bit risky because you will be recoiled but 'no pain no gain'
as they say.

Not my favorite.

2,8/5

Still waiting for D/P to be released. Anyone that also want Fione now can
just contact me as soon as I can get the Ditto over to it when I get D/P.

Alex Bramham
Infernape

Infernape is a monster, my favourite starter. The blaze trait couldn't suit him more, with attacks such as Swords Dance followed by Flame Blitz or Close Combat, it's easy to get his health in the red. While in this state, his fire attacks will do x1.5 damage. With endure and a salac berry, his sweeping potential is massive.

5/5
