Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re
reviewing Empoleon, the emperor Pokémon.
Empoleon was my choice early in the game not because of my
“tradition” of picking water types, but because of that weird
type combination. Water and Steel is something that will make
your opponent think a strategy to take it down. Plus, Empoleon
is not very common on Wi-Fi so it’s always a pretty good
surprise. Its defenses and HP are very good as well, so it’s
almost for sure that your opponent will have to use a sweeper to
take Empoleon down.
Torrent is not that great, useful only if you really have a
strong water type, plus STAB, and you have some kind of choice
item.
Let’s move on to the move combinations. New moves for new
Pokémon, let’s see what’s up with this guy…
Empoleon.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Wacan berry.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 129 Special defense, 129 HP.
- Agility
- Surf
- Flash cannon
- Ice beam
Yeah, I know, reminds us a little bit of Metagross. Agility is
very useful in Empoleon but it you really don’t want or can’t
use it right, change that for Hidden power flying / psychic.
Wacan berry weakens the power of electric attacks so hopefully
you will be safe after one of those nasty thunderpunches.
Empoleon.
Nature: Calm (+ Special defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 Special attack.
- Surf
- Aqua ring
- Protect
- Toxic
The annoyer. I really don’t like annoyers but this one works
fine, Use toxic and aqua ring, protect when necessary and surf
just to take a little bit more of the foe’s HP.
When should I use this Pokémon?
You will be using a lot if it was your starter or really like
starters (I’ve seen a lot of these guys lately). It’s a decent
Pokémon, both offensive and defensive, but as some people
doesn’t have a defensive Pokémon, I’d say go for this one, try
it out.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Some elemental puncher will take this out easily, especially if
it’s Electivire. Earthquake and close combat are useful too. I’d
say you use Lucario
Bottom line:
Looks cool, it’s cool… We don’t need anything else.
Remember, if you have DP versions and want to trade or battle
with me. I already have a list of haves and wants here in the
Pojo Forums; the URL is
http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=434041 for
trading (have some good shinies and legendaries, and all the
starters as well). If you want to battle then send me a PM or
send an e-mail to reeve.ryu@gmail.com.

3.5/5
Hope you enjoyed.

Hi, folks, it's another week,
and another starter from D/P. Today, we look at Empoleon, the
Penguin Gundam.
Empoleon
Steel/Water
Ability: Torrent (When Empoleon's HP gets low, its Water type
attack's power is multiplied by 1.5) Base Stats:
HP: 84
Atk: 86
Def: 88
SpAtk: 111
SpDef: 101
Spd: 60
Empoleon is, in my opinion, quite a bit better than Torterra,
just because it doesn't have any 4x weaknesses. Its Steel typing
does, however, open it up to a few weakness that I would rather
not have, but what can you do? If you can tell, Empoleon was
built as the opposite of Torterra, a Special Tank. Now, lets
check out some movesets.
Hydro Pump if you want a little extra oomph, Flash Cannon for
STAB, Grass Knot because it is a better attacking type than
Steel (although not by much), Rest for healing, and Aqua Ring if
you don't like Rest (Rest is better, in my opinion). Empoleon
has a little more staying power than Torterra, and, as a result,
can do a little bit more. Watch out for those Physical Sweepers,
as they most likely will be packing Earthquake, and although it
isn't a 4x weakness, it still will do a crap load of damage.
Introducing Agileon. Use it like you would Agiligross, and you
should do fine. Don't use Agility until mid/late game, so you
have the chance to sweep. I like Petaya for the item choice, and
Grass Knot for the attack. The one problem I see is that
Empoleon might not be able to OKHO Jolt/Electivire, so if you
wait until they are gone, you will be fine (I hope...). Now for
the EV explanation. Empoleon needs 198 speed in order to
outspeed Aerodactyl, Jolteon, and the like after one Agility.
Since I don't know your IVs, you will need to calculate them
yourself, and give you enough speed to get to 198. Max out SpAtk,
and put whatever is left in HP.
lol Physical Empoleon. Seriously, no one expects this set. Sure,
it can't take a hit on the Physical side, but after one Swords
Dance, you can hit anything pretty hard. Use the first EV spread
and Nature with Leftovers, and the second ones with Salac. As
for the last move, it is really up to you. I'm kinda partial to
Avalanche or Rock Slide, but anything will do here. Oh, and with
the second spread, your max speed with Salac is 360, and you can
outspeed Timid Gengar.
I really liked Empoleon before D/P came over here, but now that
I have the game, I find myself not liking it as much. However,
don't count it out. It has potential, but, like Torterra, there
are better choices for what it does.
Overall: 3.5/5
Looks: 5/5 (The best looking starter since Feraligatr)
Carbunkle
Pengiuns?
Where are we heading now?
Oh well, he is fun atleast =)
Ability is as always on the starter pokemon, get down to 1/3 of
life and
water is powered.
Nature to get the S.Atk. up which will be good.
Item is to get back HP bit by bit.
Weakness against Electric, Fightning and Ground which we will
take care of.
Well, Strategy time.
Every attack is for pure attack. Surf for those ground pokemon
that can kill
him.
Drill peck for that fighting type. Flash Cannon is strong and
you can have
fun with it.
arthquake to take out that electric pokemon if you are fast
enough.
So he is just a pure attacking.
My favorite.
3,2/5 (only rises because he looks so cool)
Still waiting for D/P to be released. Anyone that also want
Fione now can
just contact me as soon as I can get the Ditto over to it when I
get D/P.
