Bastiodon.
# 411.
Type: Rock / Steel.
Ability: Sturdy.
Locations: Evolve Shieldon (Diamond, Pearl)
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the
Week. Today we’re reviewing Bastiodon, the Shield Pokémon.
Bastiodon is the typical slow and strong
defensive Pokémon. Being a fossil automatically means being a
rock type and we already had some interesting fossils as Cradily
and Aerodactyl. There is a 50% chance your opponent will switch
Pokémon when you try to fight with Bastiodon, but there is a
nice and effective strategy involving this fact but we’ll
discuss that later.
The sturdy ability is not that great, Bastiodon
is unaffected by OHKO moves thanks to it, but you are not going
to face many (if any) foes with this kind of strategy, at least
not in competitive battles.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see
what’s up with this guy…
Bastiodon.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack),
Impish (+ Defense, - Special attack), Careful (+ Special
defense, - Special attack).
Equip: Chesto berry.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Attack / Defense, 129 Special
defense.
- Curse
- Avalanche
- Stone edge / Iron head
- Rest
Curse will make this Pokémon even slower, and
will benefit Avalanche. Use rest when necessary and sweep as
long as you can.
Bastiodon.
Nature: Sassy (+ Special defense, - Speed),
Impish (+ Defense, - Special attack), Careful (+ Special
defense, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Attack / Defense, 129 Special
defense.
- Roar
- Stealth rock
- Stone edge / Metal burst
- Taunt
Taunt will make your opponent attack without a
choice. If they switch you still take advantage thanks to
Stealth rock, or you just can force them to switch thanks to
roar. This is a pretty annoying set and definitely not very
common; your opponent won’t probably see it coming unless they
are experimented trainers.
When should I use this Pokémon?
You should probably use this if you need a
physical wall and try to make some damage with it as well. The
first set is very defensive, but the second set is probably more
creative and unexpected, you can take advantage of your
opponent’s initial shock and prepare a convenient scenario for
Bastiodon to last extra turns (a couple more curses will be a
huge advantage).
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Earthquakes are going to be a good option for
you. As you will be facing a slow and strong Pokémon, you better
hit fast and hard. I suggest using Dugtrio with sand trap
ability. That way Bastiodon won’t change. And if it tries to
roar, as you are faster, you will hit hard, probably won’t OHKO
it, but a couple hits and you will be ok.
Bottom line:
Wow, time really flows fast. This is our 3rd
Pokémon of the week this year, and there will be many more, so
see you all next week.
Rating:
3.3/5
