Togekiss.
# 468.
Type: Normal / Flying.
Ability: Hustle / Serene Grace.
Locations: Evolve Togetic via shiny stone
(Diamond, Pearl)
Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the
Week. Today we’re reviewing Togekiss, the Jubilee Pokémon.
I never really liked normal/flying types. Not
because they are bad, but they are not my best friends. Togekiss
was probably the first one I tried since Pidgeot a very long
time ago, it has a pretty good special attack (weird isn’t it?)
and decent defenses. Its only bad stat is its speed. But as we
have seen before, we can work on that.
Both abilities are pretty good. Actually both can
be used competitively without a doubt. With Hustle, damage from
physical attacks raise 50%, but accuracy is only 80%. With
Serene Grace the chances of a move having an effect doubles. I’d
say Serene Grace is better, but you’ll see both of them have
their advantages depending on our strategy.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see
what’s up with this guy…
Togekiss.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers / Choice specs / Choice scarf.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Special defense, 4
HP.
- Nasty plot / Flamethrower
- Air slash
- Shadow ball
- Flamethrower / Pulse bomb
You know the choice items, but you are able not
to choose them this time. This is the standard special sweeper.
Use Serene Grace with this one so you have more chances of burn
or flinch.
Togekiss.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack),
Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Razon fang / Kings rock.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense /
Special attack.
- Nasty plot
- Air slash
- Thunderwave
- Baton pass / Pulse bomb
Use Serene Grace with this too. This thing has a
lot of chances of flinching. Add thunderwave to the list and you
have one of the most annoying set out there. Better if used in
doubles, but it works solo too.
Togekiss.
Nature: Bold (+ Defense, - Attack), Calm (+
Special defense, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense.
- Follow me
- Air slash
- Roost / Softboiled
- Reflect / Protect / Return
Hustle or serene grace here, its not that
important. This one is for doubles. Taake it with a stat upper
(let’s say; Dragon Dance Tynanitar). Force your opponent to
attack Togekiss and use your star upper move as much as you
like. Works pretty good with baton passers as well.
Togekiss.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
Equip: Choice band.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense.
- Extreme speed
- Aerial ace
- Brick break
- Facade / Return
Use Hustle here. The physical sweeper is not as
the strong as the special sweeper, but this one is less
predictable. Not a lot of strategy involved here., just hit and
run as most choice banders.
Togekiss.
Nature: Bold (+ Defense, - Attack).
Equip: Salac berry / Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 HP, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense.
- Nasty plot
- Roost
- Baton pass
- Ancientpower / Silver wind / Air slash
Raise your special attack with nasty plot, maybe
the rest with ancientpower. Let Salac activate if possible and
baton pass. This baton passer is effective, but you have to know
somehow the best time and situation to use it.
When should I use this Pokémon?
I haven’t seen a lot of these guys lately. It is
potentially good, but its weakness against thunderbolts and rock
slides is a major problem here. Use it whenever you want an
annoying Pokémon (because of the flinching factor) or a
supporter (the double battles set).
What should I use against this Pokémon?
I’ve seen that taunter Houndoom is very effective
against most Togekiss sets. I’ve seen Encore or sleep condition
used against it. It is better if you can inflict some condition
and sweep as much as you can, preventing roost.
Bottom line:
An interesting Pokémon, not enough for me, but
interesting overall…
