Ninetales.
# 038.
Type: Fire.
Ability: Flash fire.
Locations: Evolve Vulpix via fire stone (All
versions).
Hi everyone. Welcome to our Pokémon of the Week.
Today we’re reviewing Ninetales, the Fox Pokémon.
I know it should be a Valentine’s Day special.
But as everyone expected me to review Luvdisc, I decided not to
do it this year and review Ninetales, a Valentine’s Day present
I trained for someone, and it was a shiny one by the way.
Ninetales has a pretty good special defense and its special
attack is ok. It’s not a very fast Pokémon and it seems there
are few of these being used today. So let’s see what we can do
for our friend.
Flash fire is a good ability if you manage to use
it. If hit by a fire type move your fire attacks raise a 50% and
you will be immune to fire type attacks. Sure, nobody wants to
hit Ninetales with a fire type move, so you will have to switch
at the right time.
Let’s move on to the move combinations, let’s see
what’s up with this guy…
Ninetales.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Salac berry / Lum berry.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 129 Special attack, 129 HP.
- Flamethrower / Fire blast
- Energy ball / Extrasensory / Dark pulse
- Nasty plot
- Substitute / Hypnosis
Nasty plot and substitute / hypnosis combo is a
choice for you to raise your special attack. The first move is a
must, and I’d suggest Energy ball for the second one as you
cover the water, ground and rock weaknesses.
Ninetales.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Focus sash.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 252 Special attack, 4 HP.
- Flamethrower / Fire blast
- Energy ball
- Nasty plot
- HP ice
This is another kind of special sweeper. Focus
sash gives you the chance to use nasty plot as well, then just
sweep.
Ninetales.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers / Chesto berry.
EV´s: 252 Speed, 129 Special attack, 129 HP.
- Flamethrower
- Energy ball
- Calm mind
- Substitute
If you don’t like nasty plot, then maybe calm
mind is for you. It’s simple. Use substitute and calm mind as
much as you can, then sweep.
Ninetales.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 129 Special attack, 129 Special defense,
252 Speed.
- Flamethrower / Fire blast
- Will-o-wisp / Confuse ray
- Attract
- Grudge / Spite
This one my Valentine’s present. So, you want a
female with this set. Use attract, will-o-wisp and attack as
much as you can, then use grudge or spite when you are about to
die. Is not very aggressive, but if you manage to burn a couple
Pokémon and then take some PP with you, this one is going to be
a very effective annoyer.
When should I use this Pokémon?
It’s not a bad Pokémon; I think it has potential
to last a good competitive battle. But unfortunately, there are
not many trainers like me, so it’s not used often. I think the
annoyer set is the best one because you might want better
special sweepers, so try that one out.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Tyranitar and Hippowdon are lethal for Ninetales.
Ninetales can’t defeat a fast dragon type as well. So you have a
lot of options. Just remember it can attract and burn. Keep that
in mind and you’ll be fine. Taunt is a good move as well.
Bottom line:
I think we have reviewed 96 Pokémon so far. And
now I’ll ask you, my readers, to choose one Pokémon for our 100th
Pokémon review. It doesn’t matter if we have reviewed it before
as we can always think about new sets, every Pokémon is a
candidate. So send me your votes via e-mail when you have the
chance, thanks.
