Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re
reviewing Lapras, the transport Pokémon. It was third place, so
with this one we complete our special contest reviews. Thanks
again for your votes.
Lapras has very good HP and special defense. I remember having a
bad time against it trying to kill it with thunderbolt and razor
leaf. Unfortunately it has a terrible speed and average attack
and special attack. So this is definitely not a sweeper (at
least not the best), so we are focusing on defenses.
Water absorb is a counter for other water sweepers and shell
armor is effective against those horn drill / fissure
strategies, but we know it’s not that common, so water absorb is
definitely your best choice.
So, the move combinations for today are…
Lapras.
Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).
Equip: Petaya berry.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 HP, 6 Defense.
- Ice beam
- Thunder / Thunderbolt
- Surf / Hydro pump
- Rain dance
Lapras is a pretty good rain dancer. It is decent in both single
and double battles. Just use rain dance and sweep, easiest set
for this one.
Lapras.
Nature: Impish (+ Defense, - Special attack), Careful (+ Special
defense, - Special attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Attack, 129 Defense, 129 Special defense.
- Dragon dance / Curse
- Sing / Return / Body slam / Confuse ray
- Ice shard / Avalanche
- Waterfall
I’d suggest using sing and then curse / dragon dance so you have
good attack and defense now, then sweep as much as you can. If
you don’t want to use sing then there are other 3 good moves you
can use.
Lapras.
Nature: Impish (+ Defense, - Special attack), Bold (+ Defense, -
Attack).
Equip: Leftovers.
EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 HP, 6 Special defense.
- Ice beam / Ice shard
- Heal bell
- Thunderbolt / Waterfall / Surf
- Roar / Sing / Rain dance / Hail / Thunderbolt
I’d suggest having one ice and one water attack. Heal bell is
one very useful move. Your entire team can be saved thanks to
this, and sometimes using it at the right times means victory.
Take good care of this Pokémon; be extremely careful when using
this.
When should I use this Pokémon?
I’ve seen clerics (Pokémon with heal bell) are not a very
popular variation among trainers. Cleric Lapras is hard to get
as you get it from XD: Gale of Darkness. But I guarantee it is a
decent addition to your team, you never know when you are going
to need it, specially in tournaments.
What should I use against this Pokémon?
Magnezone and Ludicolo will probably force a switch because
Lapras is not that defensive, and both Pokémon are very
resistant to it. Strong fighting attacks will lower its HP for
sure so maybe Medicham and Lucario would be good counters.
Bottom line:
This week I’d like to thank everyone who has contacted me,
asking questions, trading or battling. Special kudos to Kary for
accepting some very interesting trades this week.
Rating:
3.4/5
Hope you enjoyed.
