Toxicroak.

# 454.

Type: Poison / Fighting.

Ability: Anticipation / Dry skin.

Locations: Great Marsh (Diamond / Pearl).

Base stats:

            HP: 83

            Attack: 106

            Defense: 65

            Special attack: 86

            Special defense: 65

            Speed: 85

Hi everyone. Welcome to another Pokémon of the Week. Today we’re reviewing Toxicroak, the Toxic Mouth Pokémon.

Toxicroak is another one of our special requests made by a good friend of mine. Its stats are very poor, even its attack. But having an interesting type combination, the proper ability and a good movepool makes Toxicroak a very fun Pokémon to play with. We’ll mostly use physical sweepers with this one.

Anticipation lets you know if your opponent has a super effective or OH-KO attack. But the dry skin is definitely better; it lets you restore some of your HP when hit by a water attack or when it’s rainy but (and it’s a very bog but) it makes Toxicroak weak to fire attacks and reduces its HP during sunlight. It’s a pretty good ability if you know how to use it.

So, the move combinations for today are…

Toxicroak.

Nature: Jolly (+ Speed, - Special attack).

Equip: Life orb.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Swords dance / Earthquake / Rain dance

- Poison jab

- Cross chop

- Stone edge / X-scissor

I think this is the most basic and easiest set to use. It’s all about pure sweeping if you want to. But I’d suggest using swords dance if possible. Or you can use rain dance with dry skin and forget about the life orb effect.

Toxicroak.

Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack).

Equip: Leftovers.

EV´s: 252 Special attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP.

- Nasty plot

- Shadow ball

- Focus blast

- Dark pulse / HP fighting / HP ice / HP electric

This special sweeper is not the best one you’ll see. But it’s a very nice surprise for your opponent. Surprise factor is a great friend. Use nasty plot and sweep as much as you can. If you choose HP I’d say fighting is the best option but if you are going against Gyarados use electric or ice against dragons.

Toxicroak.

Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).

Equip: Leftovers.

EV´s: 252 Attack, 252 HP, 6 Speed.

- Substitute

- Focus punch

- Sucker punch

- Stone edge / Cross chop

Substi-puncher Toxicroak is a good option as well. I still like the physical sweeper over this but here you have another set for you to try.

When should I use this Pokémon?

Fighting types are pretty good. Their type combinations are pretty awesome; Blaziken, Medicham and Toxicroak are good examples of this. They are part of that interesting part of the game. Probably it is not as terrific as Heracross or Machamp, but it can cause serious damage if you know how to train and use it. I’d suggest this for medium-experienced trainers.

What should I use against this Pokémon?

Earthquake will be very OH-KO most of the time. That’s why Toxicroak depends on speed so much. Claydoll, Gliscor, Tyranitar and Metagross are very dangerous. Be careful of strong Psychic attacks from Starmie, Medicham and Gengar as well…

Bottom line:

We end this week of double dose. I’ll start finals on Friday so wish me luck and see you next time for another Pokémon or the week. Remember your feedback is very important for us to improve this section.

Rating:

2.9/5

Hope you enjoyed.

Reeve.
