Glalie.
Japanese name:
オニゴーリ
(Onigoori).
# 362.
Face Pokémon.
Type: Ice.
Ability:
Inner focus: This Pokémon
won’t flinch.
Ice body: HP restores when Hail is
active.
Height: 4’11’’.
Weight: 565.5 lbs.
Locations: Evolver
Snorunt (All versions).
Base stats:
HP: 80
Attack: 80
Defense: 80
Special attack: 80
Special defense: 80
Speed: 80
Pokédex Data:
To protect itself, it
clads its body in an armor of ice, made by freezing moisture in
the air.
It’s
Glalie’s turn today and man it is balanced. 80 is a little bit
low for all of the stats, and that makes it very underused in
today’s environment but it is not all that bad. It has a
predictable but effective moveset. Overall those stats can be
fixed in battle thanks to baton pass or choice items.
The
movesets for today are…
Exploder.
Glalie@Salac
berry.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack), Jolly (+ Speed, -
Special attack).
EV’s: 252 Attack / 129 Defense / 129 Special defense.
- Earthquake
- Ice fang / Ice shard
- Endure
- Explosion
Earthquake and your preferred ice attack are you main weapons,
use endure with a good timing and you’ll raise your speed and
explode. I like this set in doubles, but works fine in singles
as well.
Choice bander.
Glalie@Choice
band.
Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack).
EV’s: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 6 HP.
- Ice fang / Ice shard
-
Earthquake
- Crunch
- Explosion
This is
a pure physical sweeper. You can also make a special one thanks
to choice specs and switching the first three moves with ice
beam, HP ground and shadow ball
Spiker.
Glalie@Leftovers.
Nature: Timid (+ Speed, - Attack).
EV’s: 252 Speed / 129 Defense / 129 Special defense.
- Spikes
-
Substitute
- Toxic
- Block / Protect / Ice beam
This is a decent defensive option with some variations so you
can adapt it to your own needs. It lacks of speed but will work
ok if you have baton passed some.
Pros.
Glalie
can get a lot better thanks to hail and ice body and/or some
berries. It is a good spiker and a decent sweeper specially in
underused environments. It can even face some overused Pokémon
if you are an experienced trainer and have some luck. Explosion
is always a nice finishing move and I’ve always liked ice types.
Counters.
Fighting type attacks are going to be Glalie’s doom. A quick
bribk break from Tyranitar or Aura sphere from Lucario will be
more than enough. Fire and rock types will do good as well, but
might not be as fast as you need to avoid explosion, so be
careful.
Bottom line.
Thanks
for reading, I’ll see you next week with another Pokémon of the
week. Have a nice summer if it is still summer over there…
