You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by sending 1 Insect, Plant, or Reptile monster from your hand to the GY. You can only Special Summon “Ragnaraika the Evil Seed” once per turn this way. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add to your hand up to 2 different “Ragnaraika” cards of yours that are banished and/or in your Deck, except “Ragnaraika the Evil Seed”, then banish 1 card from your hand, also you cannot Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Insect, Plant, or Reptile monsters. You can only use this effect of “Ragnaraika the Evil Seed” once per turn.

Ragnaraika the Evil Seed starts off our look at the Ragnaraika archetype on Pojo.

Evil Seed is an extender, like all of the Main Deck Ragnaraika monsters, with this one setting up the graveyard for the other two to become extenders. Send to the grave from the hand to Special Summon isn’t that bad of a cost, especially if it will enable another Special Summon when you banish that monster, or cycle it back from the banished zone after banishing it. Plants have always worked hand-in-hand with Insects and Reptile monsters throughout the game, even if they have their own archetypes that have seen dominance in the meta. There’s a lot of monsters you can discard here depending on what you splash this archetype into.

When Normal or Special Summoned you get paid back for the discard and summoning of Evil Seed with two different Ragnaraika cards from the deck or in the banished zone. Can’t search itself otherwise you’d thin the deck and have three of these on the field plus an insane card advantage even with having to banish a card after you add the two Ragnaraika cards to your hand. Ragnaraika Bloom is your archetype’s Continuous Spell that helps recover your banished monsters via Special Summoning them in Defense Position once per turn. Ragnaraika Armored Lizard can pop back a monster on your opponent’s field to the hand (unless it is a Reptile, Insect or Plant), while Beetle can Special Summon one of those mentioned Types when Beetle is used as material for a Ragnaraika Link Monster. All the while after Evil Seed you are locked into those three monster Types but that’s even better than previous restrictions we’ve seen. From there, the choice is yours. If you go for a Link Summon, like your Link 2 Ragnaraika Skeletal Soldier, you can bring back Beetle and then bring back Evil Seed, setting up a Rank 4 Summon (too bad you’re locked into those three types or this would be a one-card Apollousa).

There’s only five cards in this archetype and because they encompass three different Types of monsters they are indeed a splashable engine for those Types. Evil Seed may only get Ragnaraika cards, but it sets up your graveyard and banished zone while thinning your deck. You aren’t restricted to only Ragnaraika for the turn, but Beetle works best when used for a Ragnaraika Link Monster and the Link Monsters in Ragnaraika can bring themselves back rather easily.

If you liked Tri-Brigade, then you’ll like the new archetype, since it’s basically Tri-Brigade for Plants, Insects, and Reptiles. We start Ragnaraika Week with their best Main Deck monster: Ragnaraika the Evil Seed.

Evil Seed is a Level 1 EARTH Plant with 0 ATK and DEF. Stats aren’t good, but everything else makes up for it at least. It can be Special Summoned from the hand by sending a Plant, Insect, or Reptile from the hand to the graveyard, making it a quick extender in Decks using any of those three Types. It can only be Special Summoned once per turn this way, of course. It makes up for the minus 1 to summon itself by searching for 2 different Ragnaraika cards to your hand from your Deck and/or banishment, getting you to more extension options like Samurai Beetle, Armored Lizard, or the upcoming Butterfly Lady, or you can get the archetypal Spell, Ragnaraika Bloom, to search more Ragnaraika monsters or get bodies back on the field. I’d recommend to search Hunting Dance as removal, but the Link-3 searches for the archetypal Traps, so no use searching it with Evil Seed. You can’t search for Evil Seed, and you must banish a card from the hand after, but some of the Ragnaraika cards can make use of whatever you banish. You’ll also be locked to only Special Summoning Plants, Insects, and/or Reptiles, but there’s several good options between the three Types. Evil Seed makes for a decent starter for the Deck with its Special Summon effect and double search. If you don’t draw it, you also have One for One and/or Lonefire Blossom to get to it, so there’s more options to summon Evil Seed. The most consistent thing you’ll probably see in Ragnaraika Decks is 3 Evil Seed.

It’s deja vu for Tri-Brigade fans; this week begins our coverage of the Ragnaraika archetype, another new archetype from Legacy of Destruction. Ragnaraika the Evil Seed is first on the list, a level 1 EARTH Plant monster with a fittingly terrible 0 attack and defense. That does mean you can search it with Piri Reis Map, but you probably don’t want to do that since you can access it with Ragnaraika Bloom and Lonefire Blossom anyway. Since it is a Plant monster, it at least has the benefit of easily being weaved into Plant combos, which will be very relevant later on!

Evil Seed can be Special Summoned once per turn from your hand by sending any other Insect, Plant, or Reptile monster from your hand to the Graveyard. I’m a huge fan of being able to Special Summon starters in a pinch to save your Normal Summon for something else (this is particularly relevant in Traptrix builds), plus you can fill your Graveyard with fodder monsters for whatever purpose you see fit. I would’ve preferred if it was a free discard, but most Ragnaraika hybrids are pretty heavy on monsters anyway so it’s not a huge deal. Evil Seed’s other effect is hard once per turn, triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned to let you search any two different Ragnaraika cards or recycle them from banished, though you’ll have to banish a card from your hand and you’ll be locked into Special Summoning Insect, Plant, and Reptile monsters for the rest of the turn. I’ll always maintain that double ROTAs are very strong effects, and this is no exception since you can grab Ragnaraika Bloom for its excellent extension and Ragnaraika Samurai Beetle to recycle the card you just banished. I’m not too surprised that almost every Ragnaraika searcher balances out the advantage in some way, but it can add up as your hand shrinks. No matter the deck hybrid, Evil Seed will probably be in there somewhere; Plant hybrids can probably get away with just 1 since Aromaseraphy Jasmine will easily access it, though pure builds and Reptile or Insect builds will probably want more copies.
