The NEW Modified
Well, a couple of days ago I received my Worlds packet. The
official format IS New Modified, MMF, or Neo1-LC + promos. First day
will consist of 3-4 match play rounds, which is best of 3. Second day
will be the top 32 from the first day competing in 3 match play
rounds, so they will have a top 8. Then, they will compete in match
play in a single elimination format. So… it’s finally official. Worlds is going to be a NEW
format; one we aren’t used to. So what’s going to happen with this
format? The old modified was dominated by Feraligatrs and Crobats.
What’s the new modified going to be dominated by? I’ve been playtesting it for about 3 months. In my opinion,
it’s honestly the best format yet. NO ONE can tell what’s going to
“win”. Here’s honestly why. About a month and a half ago, a
friend of mine came up with the idea of using Entei/Ninetales. He, and
myself, we’re near seizures. Then, about a month ago, someone
started using Kabutops/Steelix. About 2 weeks ago, someone started
using Kingdra/Pokemon Center, and now, I’m using Dark Blastoise
(Props to Satoshi ;x) Uh… there’s still three weeks left. So what’s going to
win? I have NO idea. I don’t know, and I don’t know anyone who
does. “Why can’t it be standard?” I know people have been
wanting a standard MAJOR tourney for a long time, but it’s common
sense why not. What owns in standard? OLDER cards. OLDER cards not
playable in Modified. So, obviously, they won’t sell the newer sets
if they hold a standard tourney. They’re more than paying for the
trips they give out with the cards they’re selling. Let’s look at the major decks in MMF. Kingdra/Center – The whole point of this deck is to
use Recycle Energy, Kingdra, and Pokemon Center. Kingdra uses
Seadra’s Mud Slap over and over, and uses Pokemon Center with only a
recycle energy on Kingdra when it is high on damage. It’s hard to
beat, and the ultimate Espeon counter. Espeon – Great deck. VERY underrated… yet
overplayed. ¬_¬ I think it has a lot of hope, but can be defeated by
Kingdra/Center and Dark Blastoise. Still a strong deck. Entei/Ninetales or Magcargo – Fire
is strong, but it’s always extremely weak to water. ALWAYS. It’s
fast, but can be soaked. However, this deck is definitely great
against anything but water. I like it a lot. Crobat – Yeah, it’s still a major deck. =/
I don’t see it doing as well as it does in regular MF… it’s
weaker. Espeon kills it, Kingdra CAN kill it, and fire does about
50/50 vs. it. Overall, not the smartest choice for Worlds. Kabutops/Steelix – Strong deck that Alex Brosseau, a
judge for Worlds, made. It’s tough to beat, and does very well. Only
Crobat and on occasion Entei/Cargo can beat it. The rest lose. =\ Dark Blastoise/Steelix – I could go on and on about
combos with Steelix, because you’ll see a lot of them. Dark
Blastoise is a strong card, and does very well. I see this deck going
far at Worlds. Dark Blastoise – This can work well by itself.
It’s almost like a stage 2 arithmetic deck. Using Metals and
Darknesses, you can end up OHKOing Pokemon like Kingdra and Crobat.
Rocket Tackle is deadly. With a well thought out deck, I see this
doing VERY well.
Overall, there are quite a few good decks. I think Worlds will
be a lot of fun. And even if you don’t make Day 2… there’s still
that Card E Prerelease… OHHH maybe not. ;x
And remember, no matter the deck, you MUST play 4 tyrogue. =\ ~ RaNd0m Peace Out ;x Pojo.com is here to provide guidance to all Pokemon trainers out there.
