Relinquished – #MRL-029
You can Ritual Summon this card with “Black Illusion Ritual”. Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card (max. 1). This card’s ATK/DEF become equal to that equipped monster’s. If this card would be destroyed by battle, destroy that equipped monster instead. While equipped with that monster, any battle damage you take from battles involving this card inflicts equal effect damage to your opponent.

Based on today, you might be able to guess tomorrow’s review, but for now we’ll look at Relinquished.
Relinquished is a Level 1 DARK Spellcaster Ritual with 0 ATK and DEF. 0/0 is always bad, but it’s at least a DARK Spellcaster. Ritual Spell to summon this is Black Illusion Ritual, which while at least makes this searchable off Pre-Preparation of Rites alongside Preparation of Rites, can be a downer considering it’s a 2002 Ritual Spell that does nothing else besides summon this. Once per turn, you get to target a monster the opponent controls and equip it to this card (max. 1). It’s an interesting form of removal, equipping something to this so you don’t have to find other ways to out the monster, though now you got to deal with monsters that have targeting protection and more Quick Effects than ever before to interrupt this. This card’s ATK and DEF become that of the equipped monster’s, so you can most likely get some respectable stats if you took one of your opponent’s best monsters. Finally, if this would be destroyed in battle, destroy the equipped monster instead and also while equipped with the monster, your opponent takes effect damage equal to the battle damage inflicted to you after this battles. Overall okay protection and some nice burn as well, even if it means this is being threatened to get ran over. Would be nice if you had something like this when it also has 0 ATK, but I digress. Overall, this is a Ritual Montser of old that hasn’t aged horribly in all honesty. Relinquished has a ton of support now and his effect is still decent. He’s highly searchable alongside any Ritual Spell you might want to use to summon this as well, and he’s easy to summon being a Level 1. It’s pretty fun to run a Relinquished Deck, with of course this being the centerpiece, so I’d have 3 ready in a Relinquished Deck.

Art: 5/5 Relinquished is creepy, has that classic art style of old that has a charm to it.

Relinquished, for a time, was easily as good in real life as Pegasus made him seem on the show…which, ironically, was ‘better’ than what it could do in real life. Being a star (maybe not necessarily the star-Scapegoat, Metamorphosis, even another card I’ll purposefully omit) but it was a card in a group for an era now gone. Relinquished did receive some new support and retraining here not so long ago, which were solid cards too. It’s fun, it’s nostalgic, and Relinquished still can certainly be used. I would recommend in a mashup or hybrid of others, not even necessarily it’s own new stuff, but not alone. And always remember, if you’re unlucky enough to get caught without protection or equip, it’s just a 0/0 body. That won’t/shouldn’t happen often, but it does happen.

Art: 5/5 This is simple, but hella creepy. I remember this on the anime the first time Pegasus played it, and it made my eyes pop and my jaws drop.
