Hello Pojo Fans,

Repair Genex Controller is the archetypes first Link Monster.

Easily summoned with any of your Level 4 or lower Genex monsters, Repair Genex is a once per turn because it is rather easy to summon and its effects are not once per turn and could result in multiple Link 4’s if done correctly. Returns a Genex monster from the grave to your hand upon its Link Summon can lead into a Link 2 or more depending on what you return to the hand, but that isn’t why this card is amazing for the archetype: it’s that once per chain extra Normal Summon.

Add something to your hand from anywhere? You get an extra Normal Summon. Yes, you won’t be Link Summoning anymore this turn or doing anything outside of Synchro Summoning with a Genex Tuner Monster, but that doesn’t matter. Stuff like Genex Turbo gets you another search off its Normal Summon, Genex Neutron gets any Machine Tuner from your Deck to the hand at the End Phase off its Normal Summon, original Undine can do that combo I referenced yesterday with R-Genex Undine, and Power Planner can search other copies of itself and other Level 3 or lower Genex monsters. The point is that Repair Genex IS ONCE PER CHAIN! You keep adding monsters to your hand via effects and make sure they are on separate chains, Repair Genex is going to keep allowing you to summon. There are plenty of boss Synchro Monsters you can summon using a Genex Tuner Monster.

For an archetype that wants to Synchro Summon but doesn’t have enough monsters that Special Summon themselves, this is the card they needed. You get to keep searching and summoning and it is off of one monster that is easily summoned in the archetype. Preventing you from Xyz or Link Summoning for the turn is a good restriction, but it still allows you to bring stuff like Trishula to the field. The restriction is good, but this can still get out of hand for your opponent if they can’t stop you. If this monster was in a better archetype it would get limited or banned.

As Genex Controller was the heart and soul of the original Genex strategy, midweek brings us to what is the heart and soul for Genex being able to even play in 2024: Repair Genex Controller.

Repair Genex Controller is a Link-1 DARK Machine with 1200 ATK and an arrow pointing Left. Idk where 200 of Genex Controller’s stats went, but DARK Machine is great, and the arrow isn’t as relevant when the rest of your combo will be Synchro Summons. Material is any Level 4 or lower Genex monster, so most of the archetype can summon this. You can only Special Summon this once per turn, so hope it stays on the field for its effects. Upon being Link Summoned, you can add a Genex monster from your graveyard to your hand, which is solid recovery and instantly gets the Genex combo started with the second effect, as once per chain, if a Genex monster is added to your hand, you can Normal Summon a Genex monster, but you cannot Special Summon from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn except for Synchro Monsters while using a Genex Tuner as material. Locking to Synchros is fine, but the Tuners you run would specifically have to be Genex monsters. In return, though, you basically get infinite Normal Summons with all the Genex monsters that search on summon. Genex Power Planner searches the Level 3 Genex monsters with effects, R-Genex Crusher searches Level 4 R-Genex monsters, R-Genex Magma searches for any Level 2 R-Genex, and R-Genex Turbo searches for any Level 1 Genex. That’s not to mention Genex Undine sending R-Genex Undine to search for Genex Controller, the aforementioned R-Genex Undine’s recovery effect, and Genex Ally Birdman returning a Genex to the hand to summon itself and restart combo. This should help summon a ton of Synchro Monsters on your field. Protecting the combo would be harder now with Baronne de Fleur banned to summon early, but there’s still a ton of good Synchros. Just have Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator ready to protect from hand traps.

Today’s card is the highlight of this support wave, the legendary Repair Genex Controller, a Link 1 DARK Machine Link monster with a single left arrow. Ordinarily this would be a pretty bad arrow, but you won’t really Link Summon in Genex anyway so it’s not a huge deal. As you might expect, Repair will take any level 4 or lower Genex monster, and luckily there’s a quartet of monsters that are perfect for the job. True to its form, Repair has a meager 1200 attack to match the original Genex Controller’s 1200 defense– unfortunately, it’s somewhat relevant this time around since Repair will likely stick around during your opponent’s turn.

Repair can only be Special Summoned once per turn, a very unfortunate restriction since it prevents you from bouncing back if it gets hit by a Hand Trap. Of course, this restriction is probably warranted given its magnificent effects. Repair’s first effect triggers if it’s Link Summoned to recycle a Genex monster from your Graveyard back to your hand. Conveniently, you can recycle the monster you just used for its Link Summon, which brings us to its other effect– a once per chain effect that triggers if any Genex monster is added to your hand except by drawing to immediately Normal Summon a Genex monster from your hand, locking you into Synchro Summons from the Extra Deck using only Genex Tuners for the rest of the turn. As this effect is once per chain, you can effectively loop with R-Genex Turbo, R-Genex Magma, R-Genex Crusher, and Genex Power Planner because they all search each other in rotation. The result is a lot of bodies and a lot of Synchro Summoning. While you do lose out on Link monsters, there are plenty of strong Synchro monsters to make, like Crimson Dragon, Bystial Dis Pater, and their upcoming new boss monster. Repair is yet another “do everything” Link 1, but it does have its downsides; naturally, it’s very weak to most Hand Traps (except, ironically, Ash Blossom, though your searchers might get hit by it), so you will almost definitely want to play anti-Hand Trap techs like Crossout Designator. Some are desperate enough to play Sauravis the Ancient and Ascended and Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster, though I personally don’t think it’s worth it. One lesser-known trap is accidentally flooding your board with Genex monsters, which can happen very quickly. You don’t have access to Link Summons, so you’ll have to carefully plan when to stop the loop with Tuners so that you actually have things to summon. Cards like Genex Ally Birdman and yesterday’s R-Genex Undine can help restart the loop when you have to stop. Overall, Repair is a fantastic card that single-handedly gives Genex the ability to actually win, though unfortunately the modern game isn’t very friendly to combo-heavy decks at the moment.

+Monstrous combo potential due to creating a search loop of Genex monsters
+Makes the deck very consistent since you only need to Normal Summon one of four possible monsters
-Extremely weak to Hand Traps, particularly Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence
-Trigger effect can be difficult to control and accidentally flood your board with monsters you can’t use
