The man who yearns to swoop, Sarkhan, Dragon Ascendant is an interesting sort of creature in both helping you cast your Dragons and getting additional payoff when you do. Beholding a Dragon produces additional mana to cast them *letting you curve into a four drop one turn early, a great spot to be), and it lets Sarkhan attack as a 3/3 with flying. He makes for an interesting Dragon support card who enables the tribe while still presenting a threat, though the kicker here is that he needs a decent density of swooping menaces to be really worth the effort. I feel like he’s a powerful enough enabler, but making him successful at enabling Dragons will demand a bit of a deft touch to really get to work.

Limited: 4 (high Dragon counts make him tenable, at least)

This version of Sarkhan is nominally written with conditions, but let’s be honest: he’s rarely or never going to be seen outside of decks where both abilities are almost automatically active. And in such scenarios, he threatens opponents in at least two ways. If he doesn’t survive, he’ll ramp you into that dragon you beheld when he came into play. If he does, he’ll be a significant early threat that can run away with the game under the right circumstances. It’s interesting that his text is almost an inversion of Bogardan Dragonheart, yet they fufill similar roles; the Dragonheart encourages you to look for death triggers and graveyard synergies, while Sarkhan rewards you for growing your side of the table continuously. It’s kind of cool that both styles of red deck now have a card like that.
