Scrap-Iron Signal
– #LED6-EN027

When your opponent activates a monster effect, while you control a Synchro Monster that lists a Synchro Monster as material: Negate the activation, also, after that, Set this card face-down instead of sending it to the GY. You can only activate 1 “Scrap-Iron Signal” per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Scrap-Iron Signal carries the good of Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, but this card could’ve been better.

Monster negation in the form of a Counter Trap for the Synchron archetype is something they haven’t had. However, when the Counter Trap only negates and doesn’t destroy, that is a problem. Having to control a Synchro and it also having to list a Synchro as material makes this card too situational. Only once per turn also holds it back, while the reset seems to be the only good part about it. If you could constantly activate this card it would be better. I know within the archetype many Synchro monsters list smaller Synchro monsters as material, but this is hardly a card you want to run when there’s an endless supply of negation that doesn’t restrict and also destroys rather than only negates. You leaving them with a monster on the field in this day is just asking for trouble. Warning, Strike, and Judgment are all at 3 in the TCG, and they are all better than this. I think I’d take Forced Back over this, because it at least gets the monster off the field.

Next up in this week of Yusei support is a new Scrap-Iron card, Scrap-Iron Signal.

Signal is a Counter Trap that when your opponent activates a monster effect while you control a Synchro Monster that lists a Synchro Monster as material, you can negate the activation of that effect. No destruction, but the card makes up for it by resetting itself for use later on, which can be nice to trigger Ultimaya Tzolkin. It’s easy to get to Synchros that need Synchros. You got Quasar, Blazar, and Sifr for example alongside Crystal Wing and Shooting Star Dragon as options. Maybe Red Nova Dragon or the Red Dragon Archfiend forms if you want to try this outside Synchrons. I’m sure getting this live isn’t much of a problem, and having a Counter Trap to negate monster effects every turn due to it resetting itself is great, even if it does give away you have it after the first activation. You can only activate 1 Scrap-Iron Signal per turn, so don’t try and set multiples of this. It’s a solid Counter Trap that I can see some Deck making use of, monster negation is always great.

Scrap-Iron Signal is a Counter Trap, that offers protection for a very specific type of Monster who needed a fairly specific type of Monster for its own Summon.  In short, if you control a Synchro (who lists a Synchro as Synchro Material) and your opponent activates a Monster effect, you negate the activation.  Not destroy, simply a negation.  Meaning there’s nothing to stop them from doing it again.

Maybe not necessarily that turn, and this card does return to being Set on the Field, but your opponent knows it’s there and can play around it, or not, possibly forcing you to use it unnecessarily knowing you can only activate one of these a turn.  Protection is good, and reusable protection is better, but this is just a little too specific for me.  I see some niche use here, maybe a Side-Deck play, but it’s not a reliable card/tech.
