I am seriously not used to seeing 3/3s for three mana in colors other than green or white. It’s going to take me a while to get used to it, so I hope they don’t make one in blue soon – I might actually faint. I’ll get off that horse for now, though, because this card is probably very exciting to anyone playing red in Standard, and likely beyond too. Honestly, a 3/3 with haste for three mana is probably already good enough for a Sligh-style deck or maybe even a Big Red-style deck, and then you get that damage ability on top of it. Spitemare and Boros Reckoner remain popular casual cards because combat and damage-based removal becomes a losing proposition when they’re around, and Screaming Nemesis goes one step further. I almost misread it initially and nearly missed that you have to deal damage with its retaliatory ability to turn off lifegain, but that sounds quite easy when you’re playing red. It also works with green’s fight spells, so you have a surprising number of options for such a seemingly simple card.

One part Spitemare, one part Stigma Lasher. Screaming Nemesis is certainly here to make an enemy of everyone, and that triggered ability is quite the head-turner. While the life-gain blocking is definitely attractive, just being able to spray damage everywhere is quite a good deal, especially attached to a hasty body that wants to keep attacking. It’s the kind of creature that punishes blocks spectacularly, and it even makes damage-based removal rather sad. That this has haste makes it quite potent, but while the last line is what will make you pay attention, just being able to spread damage across the board means that this is a hard-to-answer threat that can mutilate an opponent not prepared for it.
