Endymions finally come to CotD, which I’m excited to do as it’s a really cool archetype, and we are starting off with Servant of Endymion.

Servant of Endymion as a Pendulum Scale is a Scale 2, which is a great low scale, and while in the Pendulum Zone it’ll gain a Spell Counter after a Spell Card is activated and resolves successfully, which is easy to do with the right Spells. You can remove 3 Spell Counters from this card to Special Summon this card from the Pendulum Zone and a monster you can place a Spell Counter on from your deck, just as long as it has 1000 or more ATK, and then both this card and that monster gain a Spell Counter. Summoning from the deck is always the best place to summon from, hence why you don’t see it too often without a restriction or in a more balanced archetype. The 1000 or more ATK restriction you could argue was to prevent you from summoning another Servant from the deck, but I’m convinced it’s to prevent you from summoning Royal Magical Library from the deck and have more FTKs with that card rise. On the bright side, you can grab Mythical Beast Jackal King or Endymion the Mighty Master of Magic from your deck for some negation, whether you keep them after summoning them or Link them into Electrumite and Pendulum Summon what you grabbed off Servant later. Great combo potential from this Pendulum Effect.

Servant of Endymion as a monster is a Level 3 WIND Spellcaster Pendulum with 900 ATK and 1500 DEF. 1500 DEF is fine for a Level 3, and 900 leaves more to be desired, but Level 3s aren’t too strong unless you’re Hunter Dragon or Jerry Beans Man, Spellcaster is nice while WIND is sadly the weakest attribute in the game maybe. You can only Special Summon a Servant of Endymion once per turn, but you can summon two at the same time if that comes up, but I imagine this restriction is to basically make Servant’s Pendulum Effect a hard once per turn. This card with a Spell Counter can attack directly, which I guess a free 900 damage is nice. Once per opponent’s turn (so a Quick Effect), you can discard a card to place 1 Spell Counter on each card you control that can hold a Spell Counter, which I guess it’s nice to get rid of less useful cards in order to generate more Spell Counters. Finally, if this card in the Monster Zone is destroyed, you can place it in the Pendulum Scale and add back the counters to it in the Scale that it had as a monster, which helps set up to use its effect later. This synergizes well with Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, which is as good in Endymion variants as it is in other Pendulum Decks. Servant of Endymion is great Spell Counter support and you should play three of this when you are playing Endymion in any way, shape, or form.

Art: 4.5/5 I like the turquoise robe and the background very well.

A Spellcaster week featuring the Endymions?  Alex is excited!  Servant of Endymion kicks things off this week, and this is a Level 3, Spellcaster, with 900 attack and 1500 defense, and Wind attributed for some reason.  Also, a 2 on the Pendulum scale, good low end scale result for a low Level Monster.  So, let’s look at the Monster effect here first.

Only one of these can be Special Summoned per turn, and if it has a Spell Counter, it can attack your opponent directly.  You could do worse than a 900 direct shot.  Furthermore, for a Quick Effect, you can discard a card to put a Spell Counter on any and all cards you control that can have a Counter(s).  And additionally yet, if this Monster is destroyed (no stipulation to how or by which player) move it to the Pendulum Zone and add the same number of Spell Counters it had to it.

If you didn’t know or hadn’t guessed by now, the Structure Deck works with Spell Counters, so this is a pretty focal card for the theme.  And we haven’t even looked at the Pendulum part yet.  This card gets a Spell Counter each time you activate a Magic card, and you can remove three counters to Special Summon this card from the Pendulum Zone AND a Monster with 1000 attack or more (so not another one of these) up to the Main Monster Zone.

After, both Monsters get a Spell Counter, to keep things rolling.  I don’t want to touch too much on what you can grab specifically for the other Monsters, cause we might (*might) cover some of these things later in the week.  But there have been other Spellcaster cards that came out that rely on counters, Breaker, for one…those Mythical Beast Monsters.  This is a great card for the Structure tries to accomplish.

Rating:  4.75/5

Art:  3.5/5  Rather bland overall to me.  The blues and light and dark with the spots of black in the background are more interesting than the lady in the picture.  I’m not sure how they got Wind from that either.
