Shaddoll Schism
– #ROTD-EN076
During the Main Phase, you can: Fusion Summon 1 “Shaddoll” Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, by banishing Fusion Materials listed on it from your field or GY, but it cannot attack directly. Then, you can send to the GY 1 monster your opponent controls with the same Attribute as that Fusion Summoned monster. You can only use this effect of “Shaddoll Schism” once per turn.

King of Lullaby Hello Pojo Fans, Shaddoll Schism is a Continuous Trap that is a two-pronged attack on your opponent. Fusion Summon in trap form using the field and grave is another way to get to your Fusion monsters. With the full compliment of Fusion monsters for the Shaddoll archetype finally back, this card becomes much more playable. Turn a smaller Shaddoll into a bigger Fusion monster that locks down Special Summoning can end your opponents turn. There are more Shaddoll main deck monsters with different Attributes to choose from now, making the lesser used Fusion choices not as bad anymore. The top choices are still there: Winda to lock your opponent into one Special Summon, Apkallone to negate a face-up card, Construct to get rid of Special Summoned monsters in battle. Unable to attack directly is a bummer, all but one Shaddoll Fusion monster has great ATK, but you can use the Shaddoll Fusion monster you summon with Schism as a Fusion material after benefiting from their effect(s). Match Attributes with your opponent and Schism turns into a +1 against your opponent with its spot removal, non-destruction style. Even if you can’t attack directly with the Fusion, and Schism clears their only monster, you still went +1 at the least off Schism. Traps may be slow, but Shaddoll Schism gets you so much advantage. You get a Fusion each turn, either players turn, that Shaddoll Fusion monster gets you effect(s), and then you can pop a matching Attribute back, this all translates into advantage. Crunch$G Shaddolls got a Structure Deck and now they were kind enough to continue the support, even if we’re still missing Shaddolls for FIRE and EARTH, with a new Trap to Fusion Summon in Shaddoll Schism. Schism is a Continuous Trap with the effect during the Main Phase to Fusion Summon any Shaddoll Fusion from the Extra Deck by banishing monsters listed on the Fusion from your field and/or graveyard. Pretty cool for Shaddolls to finally get a searchable Miracle Fusion basically, and it’s every turn since it’s on a Continuous Trap. Even on the opponent’s turn as well to go for a El Shaddoll Winda to disrupt the opponent’s Special Summons, an El Shaddoll Construct to dump a Shaddoll that could disrupt the opponent, or El Shaddoll Apkalone for negation on the opponent’s turn and you finally get all this outside using El Shaddoll Fusion and you can use the graveyard for resources to Fusion Summon. The monster you summon with this cannot attack directly, which is far from the worst restriction you could put on a card like this. Upon Fusion Summoning a Shaddoll with this effect, if the opponent controls a monster with the same Attribute as your Fusion, you can send a monster the opponent controls with the same Attribute to the graveyard. Free removal is a good option, especially non-targeting and non-destruction. You might not always use this, but it’s good to have. Shaddoll Schism is a hard once per turn, which I guess is fine since you don’t need to Fusion Summon all that much with this with you already having cards like the other Shaddoll Fusion Spells. This is a good way for any Shaddoll variant to make use of their Extra Deck on either turn, especially Dogmatika to dump Apkalone and maybe a Construct to search this and use it for a Winda on the opponent’s turn with the two Shaddolls sent. Overall more good Shaddoll support. Advanced Rating: 4/5 Art: 4/5 Pretty ominous, which is interesting for the Halloween season. |
Alex Searcy Anything Shaddoll related is appropriate during Spooky Season, no? Shaddoll Schism is a Continuous Trap, to assist with the Fusion mechanic in the Theme, and we know Shaddolls are all about their Fusions. Having arguably more tools to do so than most, and this card lets you Special Summon a Fusion from your Extra Deck by removing the necessary Materials from your Field or Graveyard from play. Removal isn’t a big deal anymore, so that’s not bad, and you have options here, which is great too. Said Fusion Monster can’t attack directly, which is a bit of a downside, and this happens during the Main Phase, which makes sense too. Next, you’re then able to send a Monster from your opponent’s Field to the Graveyard, so long as their Monster has the same Attribute as whatever you chose to Fuse with this card. Shaddolls have every Attribute in their Fusion pool available to them, so this is quite advantageous to the player. The longer you can keep this on the Field, the more you’re going to be able to do with it, but even just a couple of turns could be enough. It’s all going to depend on what you’re running Attribute wise in your Extra Deck, but this should still turn in your favor rather quickly. Even with(or without) so many other of the Fusion mechanics this Theme has to offer. Rating: 3.75/5 Art: So a schism is a divide, a rift, and I’m just not quite getting that, at least in a technical sense. But I do like this. Not all that spooky though, honestly. 4/5 |
