Euthanize
Strike
Type: Guardian
Cost: 2/0/0
Stats: 4/3
Effect: If your opponet counterattcks from green
zone, gain a yellow furyoku.
Flavor: Eliza always give s you her best shot.
Its that time of the week again, no not tool
time, no its not simpsons time either, or the
time of the week when I give away free pizes.
Hey, where are you all going? Get back here!
What I meant was its card of the day review
time. For the first time ever we review a Big
Brother (or sister I suppose in this case) and
its Little Brother card in the same week. Oddly
we reviewed the Big Sister Surgeon's Implements
first but its little sis Euthanize is certaintly
not with out her merits. She may not have all
the implements of a surgeon, but when you've got
a needle that big do you really need any others?
Well lets find out.
Pros:
- Cheap
- Possibly useful effect, kind of sort of forces
them to yellow
Cons:
- Only Guardian Shaman can use
- Weak punishable force
- Mediocre intercept gets topped by the average
force
Overview: Well Euthanize has big (looks at
picture of eliza)... er... shoes to fill with
her big sister being as I described yesterday
one of the closest guardian cards in the initial
set to being a staple. And lets be honest, she
fails miserably. Surgeon's strength was not in
its effect, though useful, but in its stats,
massive intercept was very useful and the force
was atleast unpunishable. Euthanize fails in all
3 categories though, the intercept can block
small attacks and opening attack, the average
strike wizzes over her head (amazing considering
this is Giant Eliza in the picture). Her force
is just barely low enough to qualify as
punishable. And her effect, although comparable
with her big sisters, is actually weaker. Your
only gaining a yellow back, not a red, if they
counter in green. While I only see people
counter Implements in green if theres a REALLY
good reason to, I see people counter euthanize
right away all the time with significantly less
hesistation. Of course its nice if they do and
it gains you a yellow back but of course if
you'd sent something bigger you might have just
pushed it down into their yellow anyway.
Deeper Analysis: So why use Euthanize at all
then? Well theres a couple reasons it sees use
from time to time. First off its cheap, 2 green
is about as cheap as they come for strikes in
the initial set. The only cards I've seen that
cost less have less then 4 intercept. Next in
yellow heavy decks aside from not costing any
yellow itself it almost assures that you'll gain
a yellow back. If they counter in green its
effect gains you a yellow, if they focus then
short of a kana you'll be replenishing a yellow.
To put it simply Euthanize is meant to be an
eco-strike. If your running guardian and
constantly burning out of furyoku, particularly
yellow, then Euthanize might be worth looking
at. Other wise its probably not worth your time.
Combos/Uses: Uh.... I guess it combos alright
with Big Bill and can be used in furyoku
advantage decks. And uh... theres always.... er....
Hey Look Out Behind You, Theres A Giant Turtle
Skipping a Jig! *runs off*
Constructed: 2/5 (it has its uses but honestly
even in a guardian deck I'd rather be running
Dark Ascedance, I guess you could run both in a
furyoku advantage deck)
Sealed: 3/5 (Eco-strikes are a little harder to
come by here and most of the best punisher stuff
are rare or uncommon)

Foreword
Well
everyone it is the end of the week and I
did not end the world. L Yes, Im sad.
But it is the weekend! Hope you have a
good one. For those of you that are
wondering (yes all 1 of you) my next
article should be up next week. If notI
died?
Anyways I missed Wednesdays review on
the account of the weather.
Thunder/Lightning storms here in
Missouri. And as any computer user on
dial up knows lightning + dial up=deep
fried computer. Read on
Card Advantages
Euthanize is a card that people are
instantly going to compare to the bigger
brother version of Surgeons Implements.
While this may sound fair to some it
isnt to me because pitting these two
cards against each other is like putting
a mouse up against a brick of cheese
with an oozy. >_> Anyway it is a no
contest. But both cards do perform the
same task really. And Euthanize is
really not as bad as it looks on paper.
Okay first of all the effect is very
similar to Surgeons Implements. If your
opponent counterattacks in the green
zone you gain a yellow furyoku. This may
not seem like a lot, but in the long run
it can be. Basically you are going to be
getting a yellow furyoku next turn no
matter the outcome. Whether they
counterattack from the green zone or
move on to the yellow zone makes no real
difference. You still get a yellow no
matter what. That is why I always tell
people that I see Euthanize as an
underestimated card. Being able to get a
free yellow furyoku isnt anything to
laugh at. It can be a game breaking
effect if you are running extremely low
on yellow furyoku.
The next pro is the fact that this is a
pretty cheap card to cast. Two green is
not anything terribly high and you
should be able to afford it. If not then
you are probably going to lose anyway.
>.< Ive played this card and I have
never had furyoku troubles with it. Two
is just not a big deal at all to me.
Some might say it is, but then again
maybe that is just my play style.
*shrug*
Pros
Good effect.
Good cost.
Card Disadvantages
Euthanize has some great big problems.
The least of which not being the stats.
Four intercept and 3 force is like
teetering on unusable. It really is. You
will not be scoring many points with
this card. In fact it is a good thing
that it has the effect that it does
because you are never going to get past
the green zone with this card. But then
again we do not need to get past the
green zone. Bleh. The biggest problem
with the stats though is that it is
begging to be punished. I mean gaining
furyoku is nice but getting a huge
strike thrown at you in return can be
pretty intimidating not to mention
discouraging to you. And yes believe it
or not some people d run punishers.
The next bad part of this card is the
fact that it is franchised. Thats never
good. And then it is an uncommon.
Meaning it is hard to pull. Which brings
me to another point which is is it
really that rare? I have pulled 5 from
one box. Call me crazy but that sounds
funny. Especially since I didnt even
pull two Surgeons Implements. L
Cons
Bad stats.
Punishable.
Uncommon.
Franchised.
Summary
In
the end I still like this card. Yes it
is not the best, and Surgeons
Implements is ten times better, but the
guaranteed gain of a yellow furyoku just
looks so good to me. I dunno play test
about > and lemme know.

Eliza
returns today in "Euthanize." I find this card
art to be quick bland. It doesn't do much for
me. Faust is there standing on Eliza's chest.
Remember she is his wife, but the dub tries to
hid that.
Let look at another Guardian card. Lots of
support for Guardians. Also it's uncommon. Two
good factors for cheaper decks.
"Euthanize" has the cheap card cost of 2 greens.
You should also be getting at least one green
furyoku when you replenish. So it works out that
this card will only cost you one green, or less
if you flip it in yellow or red. Since you would
have most likely focused a green in one of those
zones. Next her effect counts for your
opponent's next turn. If your opponent attacks
from the Green zone you would get a free yellow
furyoku. As like in the last CotD, your opponent
will focus out of that zone in order to bypass
the effect. But a yellow is not as important as
a red, so you have a better chance of getting
your prize.
Back to her stats, which are just under par. A 4
intercept can stop the opening attack, but will
have troubles against bigger forces. Next her
force of 3 is very pitiful. You got to really
strive for that golden 5 number. Stats are just
as important as effects in Tournaments. If you
can't play it, you can't use it.
This card picks up playability in Casual and
Sealed because of it's Guardian trait. Also it's
cheap cost and fair effect can help balance out
it's lower stats. Tournaments won't be seeing
this because the stats of the card might be too
low to use the card. I don't favor this less
powerful form of Eliza, so the reviews are low.
