Dragon Aura
Advantage
Type: Body
Cost: 2/0/0
Effect: Your strikes have +1 intercept and +1 force.
Flavor: "Wherever evil may be, I will rise up to smack it down!"

Ah yes, that flavor text is english dubbing at its most humorous. Oh right, this is a card review. We end our innaugral week of shaman king card of the days with a card I personally run 4 of at the time of this review so I'm going to fight the temptation to be bias towards this card just cause it fits my Jun/Lee theme and give you the real deal.

Pros:
- Relatively cheap cost
- Charge a Zone
- Boost to attack and defense

Cons:
- 2 foryoku is kind of high for an advantage
- Your not always gonna need a boost to both stats

Overview:
We take our first look at a Body card. Body cards in general are all about stat boosts, pretty much all the types have stat boosts in some shape or form but Body has the cheapest , most plentiful, and most versatial of the bunch. Dragon Aura is one such card. Dragon Aura pretty much combines 2 other Body cards into one, Devoted Sentry and Spreading Darkness. Take there costs and their effects, put them on one card and you've got Dragon Aura. Does that make it better then both of them? Not always, for one if your just looking to charge a zone either of those afforemention advantages would be cheaper, and many times you'll say be facing a 1 or 0 force and your paying for a boost to intercept when all you really wanted was a boost to force.

Deeper Analysis:
Ok sure your gonna have situations where your over paying... but typically speaking if you flipped devoted sentry for instance when you didn't need intercept, you'd still have to consider paying for it anyway to stay in the same zone, and since your not playing mind if your playing dragon aura that means its unlikely you know what strike you're gonna have coming up so you never know when you might get something that lets you convert intercept to force. Dragon aura really is a pretty simple card, its nothing fancy, just effectively levels up a strike for the turn, so theres not much to really analyse, in reincarnation it seems to me if your running body you really can't go wrong but running a few if not 4 of these. You need to charge zones, you need to use strikes, why not charge your zone and improve your strikes while your at it?

Potential Use/Combo: I think it's pretty much a gimmie in a body deck that hopes to charge alot, but perhaps a little too expensive in a deck that hopes to gain foryoku advantage by spending as little as possible each turn. It really combos well with any strike.

Ratings Break Down:
Constructed: 4/5 (heh, I run 4 of these and still not a 5 rating, what can I say, the cards good but its not perfect)
Sealed: 5/5 (As commons they should be easy to come by and they turn your poor strikes into better ones, I really can't think of any reason not to run this card in this format)

Foreword

Hello one and all and welcome to the last card we will be reviewing this week. I hope that everyone has enjoyed all of the reviews this week from all of the crew. If I do say so myself I think that everyone has done extremely well this week and I tip my hat to them. (*has no hat to tip*) Well you know what I mean. In all seriousness guys great work for your first week. It is really tough to find time to write things like this and make them worth reading and you have all done the job exceedingly well. Kudos!

Well enough lollygagging around let us get on to our next review. We end this week with a bang with this review. We will now review a card that is both cheap, efficient, common, and powerful. Read on

Card Advantages

Well as we always do we will begin with the effect of Dragon Aura. The card is simple really, if you pay 2 green furyoku you get +1 force and intercept. Pretty nifty. Basically you re getting a big bang for a little price. In this game 1 point on either your force or intercept can make or break any given game. With Dragon Aura you are getting a bonus point for both aspects of your strike. This makes for some very powerful strikes. One card that I like using in tandem with Dragon Aura is yesterdays card of the day, Point Blank. Imagine the look on the opponents face when you play Point Blank with Dragon Aura in your advantage zone! You now have an unbelievable intercept of 8, and you have also brought Point Blanks less than stellar force of 4 up to a respectable 5! Very good considering you re only paying 2 green furyoku to play this bad boy.

Which brings us to the next aspect of this card, the numbers. So you already know that you re paying 2 green furyoku for this card. Two furyoku of any kind is considered average to most players although it can be steep if it is red furyoku. But in this case you are paying 2 of the most plentiful furyoku in the game, green. In Shaman King there is no more of an easy resource to replenish than green furyoku. You ll almost always gain 1 or more green furyoku a turn. This means that this cost is easily replenished within 1-2 turns. You re also rotationally gaining even more furyoku due to this card because that +1 force could be enough to push you into the yellow or even red zones! So you re potentially gaining more than you re paying for Dragon Aura.

Besides all this Dragon s Aura is also an advantage. This means that you re getting even more for that 2 green furyoku cost. You re getting to re-flip, and charge your zone. So not only are you getting a great chance at intercepting any given attack, gaining more furyoku, and scoring a point, you re also charging a zone on top of that! I must say that this is one great card. Basically you look at it like this, you re getting a 2 for 4 payoff. You re paying 2 furyoku, but you are gaining the aforementioned advantages over the opponent.

Pros

Only costs 2 furyoku.

Has an amazing effect.

Helps the chances of intercepting AND scoring a point.

Can potentially gain you more furyoku than you paid in order to activate it.

Card Disadvantages

There is only one little disadvantage I see in Dragon s Aura. And that is the fact that Dragon s Aura is restricted to a certain set of Shamans. Being as it is only compatible with Shamans that boast the body trait makes it a little more unplayable since it only fits in some decks. Maybe this is me being finicky, but I do not like that. But other than that this card has everything going for it.

Cons

Is only playable with some Shamans.

Summary

All in all this is an amazing card. It contributes to helping you score, intercept, gain more furyoku, and charge. It is both cheap and extremely effective and it does its many jobs well. If you are playing a deck that is able to use Dragon s Aura I d suggest that you play the maximum number of copies. This will undoubtedly be an invaluable tool in many decks.

Lee Pai-Long with robo arm. In the Japanese Shaman King OCG game (which is completely different from this game) this card art was released in the 2nd set. It was with the line of cards based on "What could make Lee Pai-long be more powerful?" I'll try to fit in little things about the OCG when the time comes around, and there is a short review (like this one).

Dragon Aura has a trait restriction of Body, so it can only be played with Duncan, Jun, and Matti until more Shamans come out.

It's cost of 2 green furyoku is cheap. If it was 1 green, then it would be close to broken. It's effect, increasing Intercept and Force by 1 isn't much. The increase on your strike isn't gamebreaking, noteworthy maybe. It's a little extra push, but going from a 4 Force to 5 Force isn't much. If your deck tends to have lower intercept and/or force in it, this card can help you bring it up.

There isn't much to say about this card, it charges you deck, price is cheap, no negative effect, but it's effect only goes up by 1. I expect in future sets that a card will have the same cost, but increase by +2. Test this card out in your deck, but if you find that it's not helping, then don't use it.

Casual: 3/5 (not bad, but not great)
Tournament: 3/5 (same as casual)
Sealed: 4/5 (It's a decent pick, because the chances of large force from your opponent is lower)
