Today's
card is "No Quarter." Another one of those cards
where I just don't understand the connection
between the name and the card art. People use
this card for the effect, not the art, so let's
find out why.
"No Quarter" as a soul Limitation and is a rare
advantage card. Also this card has a VERY cheap
cost of just 1 green furyoku. Not much to go
into besides that. Cheap is good. Man, advantage
cards are easy to review.
Let's mix up this review a bit and look at the
normal effect, which is the second line on the
card. The effect states that "Your strikes have
-3 intercept and +3 force." Losing 3 intercept
is a very large drop on any strike. It will make
alot of strikes unable to counter without some
extra backup. On the upside, you get +3 force,
which is very powerful to any strike. This card
isn't made for every deck. "No Quarter" is best
played in decks with very very high intercept
strikes.
Luckily, the first line of the card is great
when you don't need the force boost. The
"Tactical: Green" can let you swap out this card
for the same cost as playing it. Remember the
second line of the card isn't optional, so only
play it if you know you can use it. There isn't
much more to say about this card. Play it when
you need it, swap it out when you don't.
This card is very playable in a well constructed
deck. More experienced players will feel the
benefits more than the casual players. So you
are most likely to see this card being played in
your local tournaments over a Casual match or in
Sealed.

Name: No
Quarter
Number: REI_017
Cost (G/Y/R): 1/0/0
Type: Advantage
Rarity: Rare
Trait: Soul
Text: "Tactical: Green. Your strikes have -3
Intercept and +3 Force."
The second card this week just has a sweet
picture of Amidamaru looking like he's about to
cut someone down. This illustration is likely a
snapshot of Amidamaru when he was living his
angst-filled teenage years in the fuedal era of
Japan.
This card rocks because:
-A 3 Force boost is insane
-It's dirt cheap
-The Tactical effect means it isn't going to
mess you up in the middle of a game
-You get a charge out of it
Well, let's look at the ups, here. First, the
card is about as inexpensive as they come, and
the effect is a real monster. And the Tactical
effect means you can pay that same green to stay
in the zone, even if you don't want the effect.
Not to mention, you get the standard zone charge
out of the deal.
And the good part of the effect is +3 Force.
That's just beastly. It can transform a weak 4
Force into a crazy 7 force, an average 5 into a
crushing 8, or even an above-par 6 into a godly
9. unfortunately, there is a downide to all this
madness, which is:
This card sucks because:
-3 intercept can make a big difference
-It's traited to Soul shaman
Yeah... the +3 Force only comes in if you can
deal with the -3 Intercept bit. Most strikes
have either a high force OR a High Intercept, so
No Quarter can often be boosting a measly force
to something somewhat substantial, or simply be
wrecking your intercept.
Also, it's traited to Soul shaman, which means
that you can't just plug it into any deck where
it might be useful.
DANGER! Kids, don't try these combos at home:
No Quarter combos really nice with Zeke and
Jeanne decks. The Guardian Strike type has
access to some really good matches for No
Quarter, such as Surgeon's Implement's, a 5/7
with this card; Smoldering Confidence, a 7/8
with this card, or possibly even Razor's Edge, a
potential 4/7 with this card.
Zeke also has Spirit of Fire to enhance the
trouble. SoF + No Quarter + Smoldering
Confidence = 6/10. That's just brutal.
Summary:
This is a good card in the right deck. It rarely
gets in the way, with it's tactical effect, and
it combos nicely with high Intercept strikes.
Otherwise, outside of a deck that's constructed
to support the effect, it's just a waste of a
card.
