Viaticum
Strike
Type: None
Cost: 0/0/3
Stats: 8/8
Effect: You may play Viatcum only if you are Jeanne.
Flavor: "Do you know what it feels like when your spirit shatters into a million pieces and then disintergrates into nothing? You're about to find out."

What can I save, I absolutely love the flavor text on this card. Sadly I can't comment too much, as much as I was looking forward to this card review I've had finals all week and insane amounts of studying and well to make a long story short this review is going to be shorter then usual

Pros:
- Insanely High Intercept
- Insanely High Force
- Insanely Awesome Flavor Text

Cons:
- Insanely High Cost
- Only Jeanne can use it

Overview: The card is pretty simple, for 3 furyoku you gain an 8/8, that can block pretty much anything and sends back a quite difficult to return 8. That catch is those 3 furyoku happen to be the hardest to get type in the game, red.

Deeper Analysis: Viatcum is one of those cards you pretty much have to build you deck around if your going to use it, but it is good enough that its worth building a deck around if you so choose. Aside from your opponent going to red and celebrating a number of Jeanne's signature moves also can gain large sums of red, theres also the effect of surgeon's implements, bestial savvy, and even feral instinct isn't bad. Of course if your not willing to dedicate to it with some of the affore mentioned cards don't even consider running viatcum, it might go off every now and again but usually its going to be focused and if you do ever pull it off your going to find yourself starved for red the rest of the duel most likely.

Combos/Uses: This card is perfect for the high defense deck. Use Venster Punisher, Conviction, or No Quarter to take an already monsterous force and make it nigh unblockable. And with all that intercept you can often do it even against large attacks. If she could run Faust the teamwork obviously he would be nice but only Jeanne can use Viatcum and she doesn't have access to faust so just make sure you have a decent supply of red gainers.

Final Stat Breakdown:
Constructed: 4/5 (assuming a dedicated red gaining deck this card can be awesome, but that cost is still steep so its certaintly not without its flaws)
Sealed: 2/5 (Well its true that 8 is almost a guarenteed hit but your not likely to be able to set up your deck to support Viatcum. I suppose 1 could be useful if you pulled a few feral instincts too, just be careful)

Foreword

Hello world and welcome to another review. Hopefully everyone has a good weekend. I know I wont. >.< lol j/k.

Anyways we close out the week with a pretty shiny card. But the problem is it isnt that goodread on

Card Advantages

Viaticum is one of those spectrograms that I do not like. Why? Ill tell you in the Cons section this is the Pros section you impatient pack of wolves! Lol. Anyways here are the good points.

The stats are great at 8/8. They will score for you a lot. And I do mean a lot. Like 9 times out of 10. That is pretty good in my humble opinion. The only cards you will need to worry about are cards like Surgeons Implements. That is the only 8 intercept card that most people play right now.

Pros

Good stats.

Card Disadvantages

The first thing you will notice about Viaticum is the sickeningly high cost of three red furyoku. This almost makes this card unplayable. You definitely are not going to cast multiples a game. Ive always referred to this card as the win or die card. If you cast it and you score thats great. But if you get blocked you will probably lose unless you can somehow build up the red furyoku again and pull off cards that do not run off red furyoku. If you do then you will be screwed basically.

Then we have the fact that this card a spectrogram. Meaning it is terribly tough to pull. But then again, why would you want to pull this?

Cons

Terrible cost.

Is not guaranteed to score.

Is a spectrogram.

Summary

Ummm.I say do not use it. All spectrograms are not created equal. Just look at Nergals Roar. If you are using Jeanne stick with her insane signature moves to score. Yes I know Im asking you to play with no bling bling in your deck.

We finish off Jeanne's X-Laws week with her spectergram card today, "Viaticum." I really dislike the quote. It's an attempt to make a cool phrase, but it's just too long, and not as powerful as those Japanese quotes.

"Viaticum" can only be played by Jeanne, as stated in her effect. Her card cost is at a huge 3 red furyoku. That's basically dumping all of your red into one blow. I believe red furyoku is best spent on strikes, but never more than one per strike. Losing 3 is a really big hit to your furyoku piles.

Intercept and Force both sit at a solid 8. Nice 1:1 ratio. Double the Opening Attack force, and clear over the golden 5 force. This attack is stoppable by a few cards. If this attack does get stopped then your red furyoku will be wasted. Your opponent would only need to add a +3 intercept to their strike to stop it if they started at the golden 5. Could be hard, but it might happen.

Red furyoku can't be wasted anywhere. So inorder to have enough Red furyoku to play this card you shouldn't have any card besides "Viaticum" that has a red cost in your deck. This is the best way to use this card. If you pull this in Draft, you might just want to hold onto the card since it's a spectergram. This card can be used in Casual and Tournaments, but make sure this card is your only red cost. Overall, this card is very limited to which decks it can be in so it's hard to rate it. Reviews are very low because of how few decks it can be used in, but could be a backbone of another deck.

Casual: 2/5
Tournament: 2/5
Sealed: 1/5(for rarity value)

Viaticum

I was told to send my Friday COTD report here, so I'll assume Pojo meant Viaticum, so here it is.

Viaticum

Strike: Universal

Cost: 3R

Force/Intercept: 8/8

Effect: You may play Viaticum only if you are Jeanne.

REI_073

Remember kids, just because things are big and shiny doesnt mean theyre good. This card will bring any Jeanne player to an important decision, is the eight strength swing really worth the cost of your entire safety net?

PROs

-Eight Force, more than enough to smack around anything in its path

-Eight Intercept, more than enough to block with and spend on teamwork/advantage abilities

-Fun to say!

CONs

-Costs three redTHREE. Fun to say, not to play.

-Only works with Jeanne

So, whats the deal with Viaticum?

We have a massive eight intercept and eight strength monstrosity of an attack here. The only problem we have is that you need to pay three red to get it across. Not impossible, but quite frustrating when you consider how many other cards your Jeanne deck will have that will require you pay red (Smoldering Confidence, Titanic Summons, Disheartening Blow to name a few.)

How am I supposed to use this card?

To examine this cards playability you can take a look at other cards that can support this. Marco, Commander and Jeanne, Iron Maiden can allow you (with your other strikes) to pay out some excess intercept to gain a green or yellow furyoku (respectively), but will that really help you with your red? Not even her signature move Mashs Splendor or Angry Chair will really help you here. Youll need to use cards like Bestial Savvy and Feral Instinct to make this really come to life. In transferring your weaker furyoku into red you can set yourself up for this massive attack.

Rate it already!

Constructed Tournament Play: 2/5 (Too much work to pull off)

Casual Play: 5/5 (A deck based around a crazy ultimate strike like this is just plain cool to pull off! Play on Johnny, play on!)

Sealed Tournament Play: 1/5 (Yeahyou have fun losing your matches there.)

Fun if youre goofing around, its just way too inconsistent to rely on. Jeanne has plenty of other ways to boost a strike to eight (Venster, Punisher, Conviction , No Quarter to name a couple) for a lot less than three red.
