It seems like the unwritten rule of three-color-themed sets or blocks is that they’re packed full of game-changing cards. It is true for Shards of Alara; it is true for Ikoria, and then some. And it is true for Khans of Tarkir as well, as the set brought numerous three-color cards which defined entire deck archetypes. The one that got the most attention at the time was Siege Rhino, because it was such a threat to so many decks. It physically dominated so many early creatures, and only costs a little more than they do. Even a control opponent – and there were plenty of those – had to counter it, because even a lot of the good removal couldn’t touch it and a sweeper felt bad after it already hurt you so much just by arriving. Khans of Tarkir even has fetchlands, which helped with the very specific mana cost.
The fact that you can now buy a Siege Rhino for less than a dollar is an indictment of the secondary market and maybe of Wizards of the Coast’s manner of pushing people to play with new cards. It says nothing about Siege Rhino.

Siege Rhino quickly rose to be a formidable threat in Khans of Tarkir Standard, and it even has managed to keep a foothold in Modern and Pioneer since it rotated out. The body is efficient, and the life swing is nothing to sneeze at. While bleeding effects aren’t going to always be a threat, being attached to a threat makes things more formidable, and a beefy body that can plow through defenses is formidable. The only real sticking point is Siege Rhino’s color-demanding mana cost, which can make it hard to splash. It was quite a force while Birthing Pod and it were in Modern together, though, and if you can reliably get this out on Turn 4 or 5, it can plow through the board before they can muster much of a response.
