In the storyline, Sigarda has assumed the role of humanity’s main guardian and protector on the plane of Innistrad. Despite this fact, I’ve always found her portrayal in this card’s art to be quite ominous. Perhaps we’re viewing it from the perspective of a vampire or a skaberen.

We’ve come to expect high-mana cost creatures to have some kind of immediate impact, and Sigarda pretty much delivers on that. Giving you and all your creatures hexproof obviously has some variability in just how much of an impact that is – a burn deck is all but locked out of the game immediately – but since interaction is the core of various Magic strategies and a part of many others’ support cards, it tends towards powerful. And on a similar note, her activated ability recalls cards like Moorland Haunt in terms of inevitability and being potentially hard to stop (not everyone has Tormod’s Cryptkeeper in play all the time. Or in their deck). There are matchups where she won’t do too much, but she more than makes up for it in other ones.

Constructed: 2/5 (better in Shadows Over Innistrad Standard, but Modern is unfortunately not much of a five-mana green creature format)
Casual: 4/5
Limited: 5/5
Multiplayer: 4/5
Commander: 4/5

Sigarda 2.0 can definitely be frustrating to play against in a long game, a self-sufficient value engine that can amass a removal-resistant board state on her own and who demands a kill spell. While her body is merely passable, hexproof to a lot of your creatures and to yourself is good at thwarting a lot of what opponents might try and do. She’s definitely a threat in the right deck, though not protecting herself is definitely the intended weakness of the card.

Constructed: 2 (way too slow for formats since she left Standard)
Casual: 4
Limited: 5
Multiplayer: 3.5
Commander: 3.75
