Crunch$G Next up for the Egyptian Gods is the one used by the King of Games himself, Slifer the Sky Dragon. Slifer is a Level 10 DIVINE Divine-Beast with ? ATK and DEF. It’s ATK and DEF is determined by the amount of cards you have in your hand, which this gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each card in the hand. So it’s really only good when you got a few cards in the hand, maybe 2 or 3 would suffice, but you’d like 5 or 6. This still requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon and cannot be Set, the Normal Summon cannot be negated and effects cannot be activated upon its Normal Summon, and it sends itself to the graveyard at the end of the turn it was Special Summoned. Again, I’d expect a God to require more to summon and I’m glad the summon is guaranteed, just the Special Summon effect is still a downer even if I get the reason why it’s there. If a monster is Normal or Special Summoned to your opponent’s field in Attack Position, that monster loses 2000 ATK and then if its ATK reached 0 after this effect resolved, the monster is destroyed. This is why you prefer to have more cards in your hand, mostly so your opponent can’t summon something that can still destroy Slifer after the 2000 ATK debuff. After you have like 2 or 3 cards in your hand so this has 2000-3000 ATK, you should be safe except for rare instances. I actually like this effect somewhat as Slifer can get strong as well as weaken the opponent’s monsters so they can’t try to destroy Slifer itself. There are ways around the 2000 debuff, but rarely is an effect perfect. Slifer is solid for an Egyptian God, though I wish it had Obelisk’s protection, but again I kinda wish for more out of the Egyptian Gods. Advanced Rating: 3/5 Art: 5/5 for the original, 5/5 for the Takahashi art, and 3.5/5 for the Movie Pack art. |
Alex Searcy Slifer is a little more lackluster than Obelisk. It never struck me as reliable for the ? attack and defense to be reliant on cards in your Hand. The protection attached here just doesn’t do me enough, as it’s only the base we saw with Obelisk, and it’s hard to keep that many cards in your Hand. You want to keep this guy at 3000, maybe even 4000 just to be safe. The Monster destruction effect here is cool, even though it only hits attack position ones. And naturally, I’ll throw in that said Monster is only destroyed if it had 2000 or less attack. So that’s very easy to play around, unless of course, your opponent has a non-Targeting counter for that. Slifer is more casual than Obelisk, fun, not quite as reliable, but not bad, either. Rating: 3/5 for being average…ish Art: Again, the art HERE is 5/5, Thunderforce attack is in full force |
