Soul Resonator – #SDCK-EN001

If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 Level 4 or lower Fiend monster from your Deck to your hand, except “Soul Resonator”, also you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except DARK Synchro Monsters. If a card(s) you control would be destroyed by card effect, while you control “Red Dragon Archfiend” or a Synchro Monster that mentions it, you can banish this card from your GY instead. You can only use each effect of “Soul Resonator” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Soul Resonator begins a look at the Crimson King structure deck on Pojo.

Level 4 or lower Fiend generic searcher when Normal or Special Summoned makes Soul Resonator a solid choice for any Fiend-based deck to use. There are several Fiend decks that can stand to use another generic search monster in the archetype: Infernity, Abyss Actor, Magical Musketeer to name a few. The lockdown on anything but DARK Synchro Monsters for the rest of the turn isn’t a big thing as there are a TON of those and you can use this after all your other Special Summons during the turn. Of the several monsters this card can search, you can search out one that we’re reviewing this week: Bone Archfiend, which at the least will get you a Level 8 Synchro DARK Synchro Monster like Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend which is a potential field-clearing monster.

Destruction protection while controlling “Red Dragon Archfiend” or a Synchro involving Red Dragon Archfiend via banishing Soul Resonator is a pretty good grave ability that we are seeing more and more on smaller monsters. There are four monsters as well as Red Dragon Archfiend that you can choose from to have on the field to have Soul Resonator live in the grave. The destruction protection stretches to multiple cards, so things like Dark Hole, Lightning Storm, Harpies Feather Duster won’t be be a problem as long as you have one of those monsters on the field. Negation and destruction via banishing of this monster would have been better, but this is pretty strong considering how high ATK any of the monsters required to be on the filed to activate Soul Resonator’s grave ability.

Soul Resonator is a great addition to Red Dragon Archfiend-based decks, but is a legit search for Fiend decks. The restriction it imposes is nothing, the search ability it has is great, and it offers protection from the grave like we’re seeing more and more from smaller monsters. Solid monster, that is also available to be searched by Tour Guide, but you want that search so don’t do that unless you’re in a pinch.

A new Structure Deck for Jack Atlas and his Resonator and Red Dragon Archfiend cards dropped, so of course we’ll look at a few of the cards from it starting with a new Resonator to make your Synchros: Soul Resonator.

Soul Resonator is a Level 3 FIRE Fiend Tuner with 500 ATK and 200 DEF. Bad stats, but a FIRE/Fiend are nice. Upon Normal or Special Summon, you can search any Level 4 or lower Fiend from the Deck besides another Soul Resonator, but you can only summon DARK Dragon Synchros from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. A good search on summon to help get to more monsters that are able to let you start playing the game and get to your Synchros, which is good for a Deck with several non-Tuners it can access to summon from the hand with great ease. Also if a card(s) you control would be destroyed by a card effect while you control Red Dragon Archfiend or any Synchro that metnions it, you can banish this card from the graveyard instead, which is good to protect from Red Dragon Archfiend’s effect to destroy monsters that haven’t attacked if you got that on the field, or hopefully you can use this against an opponent’s effect to protect yourself from it. Hard once per turn on each effect is fine. Soul Resonator is a great new Tuner for the Deck. It can help do many things like make the big boss monsters like King Calamity, Red Nova Dragon, or Red Supernova Dragon. You can also make smaller Synchros with this like Red Rising Dragon, Kuibelit the Blade Dragon, or any base Red Dragon Archfiend form. This and Red Rising also helps make Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss since that’ll likely be relevant at certain points. Soul Resonator helps get the Deck going mainly, so you really can’t go without a playset in the Resonator Deck.

Everyone’s favorite king, Jack Atlas, returns with a new structure deck, The Crimson King, this week’s coverage theme. Soul Resonator is our first card, a level 3 FIRE Fiend Tuner monster, which is a tad odd for Red Dragon Archfiend decks since most useful resonators are level 2, but fortunately there’s a way around that, and being level 3 has its perks. Soul Resonator is ridiculously searchable, as you can use Resonator Call, Crimson Gaia (coming up later this week) and a currently unreleased Earthbound card to grab it, as well as Wandering King Wildwind and Crimson Resonator if need be, so accessing it isn’t particularly difficult at all. With being a Tuner monster comes the standard horrendous Tuner stats, so don’t be surprised by the paltry 500 attack and 200 defense (hey, at least it’s a Rekindling target!).

Soul Resonator has the typical two hard once per turn effects, the first triggering if it’s Normal or Special Summoned to let you search any level 4 or lower Fiend monster except itself while locking you into DARK Synchro monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. You’ll almost always search tomorrow’s card, Bone Archfiend, to go right into Red Rising Dragon, as Wandering King Wildwind unfortunately is the wrong level (or rather, Soul Resonator is the wrong level). Soul Resonator’s other effect lets you banish it from the GY to save a monster you control from being destroyed by card effect while you control Red Dragon Archfiend or a Synchro monster that mentions it. This effect is a nice bonus in a pinch since Red Dragon Archfiend’s bosses oddly lack protection, though keep in mind many Red Dragon Archfiend Synchros don’t actually mention it (like the ever-popular Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss, tragically). While it’s tempting to use it as a Stratos for Fiend decks, consuming your Normal Summon makes it awkward for that purpose, so keep it to Red Dragon Archfiend instead of futily running it in Labrynth. That said, with Bone Archfiend and upcoming searchers, it’s an extremely reliable combo starter for Red Dragon Archfiend, and frankly all they really needed; run as many copies as possible!
