Hello Pojo Fans,

S:P Little Knight is the terror that descended onto the game this year and became the most hyped Link Monster since the Knightmare monsters showed us how to Extra Link. She comes in at #2 in our Top 10 of 2023.

Link 2 using any 2 Effect monsters, Little Knight is best summoned using an Extra Deck monster so that she will get her first effect. Link Summoning her off of Instant Fusion and a summon isn’t hard, so there you go. Spot removal via banishing is always a great effect and with Little Knight it is any card on the field or in the grave. Losing the ability to attack directly this turn is tough if you want to push for game or play an aggressive style, but Little Knight eliminates a problem cost-free: she’s a great early-game card. Link arrows are side-to-side, not the best but not useless, and with 1600ATK she has some decent power to her for a Link 2.

Little Knight also comes with the ability to banish until the End Phase 2 face-up monsters on the field when an opponent activates a card or effect. One of the monsters does have to be your own, but that can be a saving grace. Little Knight can be used in this case as a way to avoid a board-wipe or targeting effect, while taking away a monster on your opponent’s side for them to use. It can also be used during your turn if your opponent was using something like Ghost Ogre to blow a monster of yours up and you wanted to save it. This is also cost-free and being able to use it responsively either turn is fantastic. She can stop a turn by banishing the combo-starting monster until the End Phase while protecting herself for the next turn. Sure, no negation involved with her response effect, but the banish to halt the momentum of your opponent is good enough, and this effect is protection for you. Also, any monster whose effect(s) trigger when banished will activate when banished by Little Knight.

S:P Little Knight was hyped and lived up to the hype and price tag. She’s a powerhouse in a little package. A one-time banish from either field or grave eliminates something of your opponents, and then her recurring banish effect until the End Phase is both annoying and awesome at the same time. She will protect herself while slowing your opponent down. Just make sure you use an Extra Deck monster when summoning her, or you miss out on that first banish effect.

The runner up for the year is arguably the best Link Monster in the game since its recent release, from Age of Overlord we have S:P Little Knight.

Little Knight is a Link-2 DARK Warrior with 1600 ATK and arrows pointing Left and Right. Arrows are fine, mainly if you get it in the MMZ, ATK is fine, and DARK Warrior is nice. Materials are any 2 Effect Monsters, so super easy to summon. If Link Summoned using a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link as material, you can banish any card on the field or in the graveyard, but you cannot attack directly for the rest of the turn. A great banish, especially to use with I:P Masquerena on the opponent’s turn, to get rid of a powerful threat the opponent might have, whether on the field or in the graveyard. You could banish your own cards, but I imagine that’s extremely rare. You give up direct attacks, but its worthwhile if it means getting rid of a card you otherwise couldn’t get rid of, and it also wouldn’t matter if it was summoned on the opponent’s turn with I:P. The second effect is also great, being a Quick Effect when the opponent uses a monster effect, letting you banish a monster you control and any other monster on the field until the End Phase. It’s useful to reset the effect of a Baronne de Fleur potentially, or you can remove itself alongside an opponent’s monster so it can keep coming back to use this effect over and over, or use it Link Climb if you need to. Hard once per turn on each effect, which I’d hope in this case. It certainly has a great argument for being the best Link Monster, to a point where players would even be willing to run multiples. If you are able to obtain the card and your Deck can use it, you run it, and you can even run a 2nd copy if you want. It’s that good.

The silver medal goes to another sneak-peak card, S:P Little Knight, a Link 2 DARK Warrior Link monster with left and right arrows. Left and right aren’t very ideal for a Link monster to summon first (even if you’ll usually summon I:P Masquerena first), but for decks that don’t focus on Link monsters, it’s largely irrelevant. Notably, S:P has an extremely generous requirement of any two effect monsters, so most decks can make it as well. With 1600 attack, it can fight on par with most Link 2 monsters (that is, not great), but it’s an acceptable drawback for how strong S:P’s effects are that make it worthy of number 2.

S:P has two hard once per turn effects, the first triggering if it’s Link Summoned using a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link monster as material, letting you target and banish any card on the field or in either Graveyard, at the cost of preventing you from attacking directly that turn. You’re expected to use I:P so that S:P can function as a disruption, making S:P more of a last resort if you need a boardbreaker (though it’s still flexible in a pinch). S:P’s other effect is a Quick Effect that can trigger when your opponent activates a card effect, letting you target and banish a face-up monster on each side of the field until the End Phase. Being reactive is a bit lousy since you’ll be vulnerable to being beaten over, but it’s still strong disruption that can halt a combo, especially combined with the first effect. It even has the added utility of resetting effects like Baronne De Fleur which can only be activated once while face-up. Many considered S:P a new level of power creep as the strongest Link 2 yet, and rendering Knightmare Unicorn obsolete; personally I don’t think it’s a broken card, much less getting banned any time soon, but S:P is still a fantastic card that’s a huge boost for pretty much every deck.

+Incredible endboard value for a generic Link 2 monster
+Banishing your own monsters provides utility
-Low stats and reactive effect makes it vulnerable to Battle Phase
-Awkward arrows
