Domination/Force Renewal Follow Up

 

Today’s Article is a follow up to my Questions article, regarding the domination sent to me by Nick:

 

First I would like to thank you for all your effort and time that you put fourth writing about Star Wars Miniatures.  This is in regards to the 3rd question on your “Questions, questions, too many questions.” article.  The definition for regeneration 10 is "If this character doesn't move on its turn remove 10 damage from it at the end of that turn."  I feel that regeneration (or force renewal) would not be implemented because they specify that these abilities happen on that players turn.  It is my understanding that the turn belongs to the dominating character and not the dominated character.  Two pieces cannot split a single turn.  Anyway this is my belief and understanding.  I would like to hear your counter-argument because I could easily be wrong.

 

Thanks for the email, Nick.  I thought this might trip some people up, so I am glad to respond to it.  Here are the definitions for the two powers I covered, just to cover all the bases:

 

Force renewal X:  When a character with this ability activates, it gains X force points.

 

Regeneration X: If this character doesn’t move on its turn, it removes X damage from itself at the end of its turn.

 

In the case of force renewal, to gain the force point you must actually activate the character.  Effects like domination, Force Stun, Paralysis, and other abilities either bypass or do not allow YOU to activate the character.  Domination does not activate the character per the definition, and the others use the terms “considered activated,” which is not the same thing as actually activated.

 

With Regeneration, the answer is actually in the definition of Domination:

 

Dominate: Instead of taking its normal turn, this character can take control of target living character, even one who has already activated this round.  The target character takes a turn as though it were on the acting player’s squad, but cannot move.  Avoid with save 11.

 

When you dominate a character and fail the save, it becomes that character’s turn.  If you dominate the rancor, it then becomes the rancor’s turn.  He can do anything he can normally do, except anything involving movement.  Now per the definition of regeneration, all you need to do is end the rancor’s turn without moving, which you have to do anyway by definition of dominate.  So a dominated character with regeneration will regenerate when dominated.  Where I think you are getting hung up, Nick, is that the rancor actually is getting another turn by the definition of dominate.
