Redskinfreak4 on Star
Wars Minis Hey. This is Redskinfreak4 and I wanted to start writing some featured articles. Today I’m am going to talk about making a deck out of the Yuzzhan Vong Faction even though there isn’t a lot of them so far. The Yuuzhan Vong faction is very unique and has many effects that are unique to the faction. Let’s start out by becoming familiar with the stats
Yuuzhan Vong Warrior cost 8 HP 30 Def 13 Attk +3 Damage 10 Force immunity: force powers and force points cannot be used against this character for abilities and rerolls Melee Attack Thud Bug: Replaces attacks. Does 10 damage and makes the character it hits considered activated this round. Save 11 negates. Droids/ Huge characters and characters with Mounted Weapon ignore the nondamaging effect. Vonduun Crab Armor 16: damage done to this character is reduced by 10 with a save roll of 16
At first glance the warrior’s stats aren’t that good. Looking closer, however, will show that he has some good abilities. Force immunity is decent, though his low hp can’t use this ability to its fullest. The star of this figure is Thud Bug. It does the damage that an attack would do and can damper the strong characters your opponent controls without a greater risk of failing. Vonduun Crab Armor is a great effect but the high roll doesn’t allow this effect to be used as often as the Warmaster (discussed later). The next figure is the Sublatern.
Yuuzhan Vong Sublatern cost 17 HP 40 Def 14 Attk +5 Damage 10 Double Attack Force Immunity: see above Melee Attack Razorbug: replaces attacks. Sight: 10 damage save of 11 Thud Bug: See above Vonduun Crab Armor 11: same as above except with a save of 11
Commander Effect Allied Yuuzhan Vong Warriors within 6 Squares gain Double Attack
The Sublatern is better than the Warrior. He has all the Warrior’s effects and then some. Double attack is always nice and with +5 attack he will be able to take out most small characters. Razorbug is a decent effect though not as potent as Thud Bug. The Sublatern shines in the Crab Armor. Now with a save of 11 or better the crab armor can be used to a greater degree. Its commander effect is decent but not as good as Nom Anor’s or the Warmaster’s.
Nom Anor cost 34 HP 80 Def 18 Attk +12 Damage 10 Unique Cunning Attack: +4 attack and +10 damage against characters who have not activated this round Force Immunity Loner: +4 attack if there are no allies within 6 squares. Ooglith Masquer: At the start of the skirmish, chose one non-unique character. That character gains stealth Plaeyrin Bol: Replaces turn; 40 damage to one adjacent character with a save of 11 Stealth: this character does not count as the nearest enemy if he has cover.
Commander Effect Characters with stealth including himself cannot be targeted by nonadjacent enemies and gain Self-Destruct 20 (when this character is defeated, all adjacent characters take 20 damage).
Nom Anor is a decent unique character. Ooglith Masquer can be good when combined with his commander effect. His best ability, however, is Plaeyrin Bol. To be able to give 40 damage with a 50 percent chance of succeeding is pretty good. Even the AT-ST doesn’t have that percentage. Cunning Attack also helps for when he isn’t near an enemy. Though he is good, the Warmaster is much better.
Warmaster Tsavong Lah cost 63 HP 200 Def 18 Attk +15 Damage 10 Unique Cleave: Once per turn, if this character defeats an adjacent enemy by making an attack, he can make 1 immediate attack against another adjacent enemy Force Immunity Melee Attack Momentum: If this character moved. He gets +4 attack and+10 damage Triple Attack Vonduun Crab Armor 6: same as above but with a save of 6
Commander Effect Allied Yuuzhan Vong who end their move within six squares gain momentum
This is the true star of the Yuuzhan Vong faction. Though he is costly, his abilities and hp are well worth it. First his stats are incredible. With 200 hp, he will be very hard to bring down. +15 attack almost guarantees a hit on many characters. Though 18 defense isn’t very high, most small characters can’t get above that. His effects make him most worth it, however. Cleave is an amazing ability. First you can knock down a hard opponent with quite a large amount of hp, then you can attack small character and knock out 2 for the price of one. Momentum changes him from a good attacker to a near broken one. With +19 attack and 20 damage, the only thing that would be able to stop him would be a natural 1. Vonduun Crab Armor is broken with this character. With hp already at 200, adding in an ability that will reduce damage by 10 in 9 out of 10 situations is insane. Then, adding momentum to all figures makes all of them much more playable. Now I will give a 100 game list and a 200 game list.
100 game 1x Warmaster Tsavong Lah 63 1x Yuuzhan Vong Sublatern 17 2x Yuuzhan Vong Warrior 16
Total 96
Though this is a small list, it balances out with the commander effects of both the Warmaster and the Sublatern. Thud Bug and Crab Armor will protect your characters most of the time. Just send in the Warmaster and keep him in one spot so that the commander effect can be used to its fullest. Note the absence of Nom Anor; his effects are not as important than the effects of the Warmaster. Every point counts in the 100 game Now for the 200 game:
200 game 1x Warmaster Tsavong Lah 63 1x Nom Anor 34 3x Yuuzhan Vong Sublatern 51 6x Yuuzhan Vong Warrior 48 Total 196
Not much more to say. Use the same strategy as before. With Nom Anor, depending on which map is used, keep him by himself to use his loner ability. With Ooglith Masquer, use it on one of your warriors and make sure to remember which one.
That is all for now. This is Redskinfreak4 out.
