Savage; Charging Assault 20; Speed 8

Today we get a small version of a fig people have been hoping would come out at as the next colossal, the Krayt dragon. This creature draws instant comparison to the reek. A solid piece in and of itself, it really doesn't stack up to the reek.

For one point less we lose 60 HP, but gain 10 DAM (same ATK and DEF). I don't know if that is only a 1 point deduction. The other plus for the Krayt is speed 8, but with savages, increased speed can actually be a draw back without the use of a wrangler. It means an enemy can be four squares farther back and still draw you to it to satisfy savage.

Now with the charging assault, 50 DAM is pretty good, but if you can be forced to charge an ug while Vader sits in wait the Krayt is a wall trophy back in the death star, so the use of wranglers is a must at least to start.

The best use of the Krayt is going to with Exar, where he can do an insane amount of damage if he can charge a Jedi. Let him or the reek charge in and it leaves a powerful Exar to clean up.

100pts: cant be used here. He just has nothing going for him. That and you don't run melee huges on the maps allowed in DCI. Shooters can get places where they cannot be touched and you are as good as dead.

150: Here you can at least get Exar in. Between Exar's teleporting and the dragon's charging, they can carve up a lot of damage, but in the end the reek is still better. You still have the same map problems in the end though.

200pts: Here you can get more help and make a decent squad of it. Exar and wranglers are the way to go almost every time. He is still over shadowed by the reek, but he can still be some fun to play.

Star Wars Mini's Review/Young Krayt Dragon for 5/6/07

He all! I am thejumpingflea (you may know me off of the Wizard boards) and I am the newest reviewer here on the great Pojo boards! This week we start off with the Young Krayt Dragon from the new Bounty Hunter's set.

Here are it's stats fyi
Cost: 50 Faction: Fringe
Hit Points: 140
Defense: 17
Attack: +12
Damage: 30
Special Abilities:
Charging Assault +20 Replaces turn: Can move up to 16 squares, then make an attack at +20 Damage against an adjacent enemy.
Melee Attack This character can attack only adjacent enemies.
Savage This character must end its move next to an enemy if it can and does not benefit from commander effects.
Speed 8 Can move up to 8 squares and attack, or double that number without attacking.

Now this piece is a cool piece. It has a solid attack value with good damage potential. The fact that it can move 16 squares and do 50 damage is great although, it is a one time deal. It's defense is lacking, and it's HP is solid although it being a huge it will take a beating fast. The best piece to pair this Dragon is Exar. Exar allows the Krayt to run at a Jedi with a
+20 attack for 70 damage! While this sounds great, you are spending 50
points to make this run once, MAYBE (and that is a big maybe!) twice. I cannot see myself using this piece over the Reek, (You lose +10 damage and speed 8, but gain +60 HP), but that is a big matter of opinion.

100: 1- Don't try it, he is half your squad and will die fast.
150: 1.5- With Exar maybe, but still that is too many points.
200: 3.0- Again, Exar allows you to do something and it will work under the right circumstances.
