Anakin Solo (24/40, Rare—Jedi Academy; HP 50, DEF 18, ATT 8, DAM 20, DEP 23)

The final Solo child finally makes his appearance on the minis field and for 23 points, you’re getting a surprisingly stacked stat card. Being a family player, Anakin has Synergy with anyone who has Solo in their name and with four other Solos out there he can pick up a whopping +16 bonus to attack if all of them are within six squares of him. That synergy really offsets his weak attack bonus because if played correctly, you should be able to at least keep one Solo near him to make him a +12 to hit. Reflecting his natural mechanical aptitude, Anakin also has Industrial Repair 30 which can be pretty handy. Finally, he comes equipped with Double Attack which is always nice and with Pilot it may be possible for Anakin to pick up some other random bonuses down the line.

Anakin’s Force powers are impressive and thanks to the natural power creep of the game, Anakin definitely outclasses his siblings in terms of Force abilities. He comes equipped with Force Renewal, which is a godsend compared to his Force-limited siblings. Lightsaber Block gives him some protection from your opponent’s Melee attackers. With Force Push 2, Anakin can also deal some damage at range, which is always a plus and Push can also wind up knocking a key opponent’s piece out of position which can be incredibly annoying. Once a Force user is defeated, Anakin really becomes pretty nasty because of Unleash the Force. Where he has a distinct advantage over Jacen is that he won’t take damage from being able to access it.

Anakin’s biggest drawback is that he’s still just a kid. His hit point levels are very low and he won’t last long once your opponent decides to focus on him. With his low HP levels, he honestly could wind up being the first Force user defeated and he won’t be able to take advantage of Unleash the Force. Industrial Repair 30 also seems somewhat unnecessary since there aren’t any pieces with Mounted Weapon that are New Republic specific.

100 POINTS: Here, he just doesn’t have enough damage-dishing capabilities to really be an effective piece. While Unleash the Force could be pretty nasty at this level, it’s just not reliable enough and there’s not enough room to put another cheap Force user in there for him to use as fodder for it. SCORE: 2

200 POINTS: At this level, since there’s a lot of room for other characters (including the entire Solo family), Anakin can become a pretty powerful little piece. While you’ll need to find a way to protect him to be effective for the entire game, he’s still definitely worth the 23 points it will cost to get him out. SCORE: 3.5
