Cade
Skywalker, Padawan - 20 points
Faction: New Republic
HP: 60
Defense: 16
Attack: 8
Damage: 20
Abilities: Unique, Melee Attack, Double Attack
Force 2, Force Renewal 1, Essence of Life, Force
Heal 20, Force Leap
So here we review the new Cade Skywalker, his
Padawan version. The New Republic really got a lot
of great options in this set, and I believe the new
Cade is one of them. Let's examine. His stats are a
bit worse than you would expect for a 20 point Jedi.
60 HP won't hang around long... espessially with his
low 16 defense. He won't be doing much damage with a
mere 8 attack, either. Double Attack helps, but this
piece certianly won't be winning many battles with
brute strength alone. Still, they aren't horrible
for a piece of his price.
Cade's true talents, like his Bounty Hunter version,
lies in his abilities. This Cade isn't an uber agent
of destruction, but it could be a very valuable
support piece for the New Republic. If it isn't
painfully obvious by now, this Cade is a healer. And
a damn good one too. Force Renewal 1 allows him to
refresh his Force points to keep using his great
abilities... and he has two. The first is Force Heal
20, which heals a character 20 damage who he can
touch. With Force Renewal, you could do this every
other turn if you wanted to. It's espessially useful
to heal Cade himself, since he is likely to become a
target for your opponent. Secondly and most
importantly, Cade Skywalker gets Essence of Life, a
very brutal ability. For two force points and a save
of 11, Cade Skywalker can stop a character from
being defeated. Combined with Leia Skywalker, your
characters have a 75% chance to avoid death.. qutie
a useful ability. To me, Cade Skywalker is another
piece that simply is begging to be used with Grand
Master Luke. In the rare occasion that your opponent
was able to take down Luke, you can spend two force
points with Cade to try to save Luke. Leia provides
a free additional save roll, and Luke can reroll it
twice himself with Master of the Force 2. Yeah...
that's just mean. And an extra turn with Luke could
really be some massive damage.
All in all, for 20 points, Cade Skywalker Padawan
really is a good support unit. His best use is
probably with Luke to help protect your large
investment, but he could help other New Republic
squads as well... any New Republic squad using Leia
could really benefit. Try him out!
100 points: 2/5, Nah, don't bother. You could help
keep your beatstick from dying in this format but...
the New Republic really doesn't have any beatsticks
in this format (GM Luke isn't legal). I guess you
could be using Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master but...
that just wouldn't be good, either.
200 points: 4/5, Here he can be a very good support
character. I really like what he brings to the table
in GM Luke squads, so try him out.
Sculpt: 3/5, Aaah... the good old wife-beater look.

Cade
Skywalker, Padawan (25/40, Rare—Jedi Academy; HP60,
ATT 8, DEF 18, DAM 20, DEP 20)
Even as a Padawan, young Cade Skywalker was gifted
with the healing skills of the Force. He makes an
excellent healer for the New Republic with Force
Renewal 1. With Force Heal 20, he can help keep your
squad going for a lot longer just acting as a
healer. However, this is not the only healing trick
he has. Essence of Life behaves very similarly to
the Medical Droid’s Emergency Life Support but is
infinitely better because you only have to make one
save of 11 to pull it off. Put him in a squad with
the new Jedi Academy Leia and your characters will
have plenty of chances to make that save. Finally,
though Force Leap isn’t a healing power, it benefits
Cade a lot since it will help him get into the thick
of things where his healing is needed without the
danger of attacks of opportunity.
As a fighter, Cade leaves a lot to be desired, but
that’s expected since he’s just a Padawan. Though he
has Double Attack, with his stats as weak as they
are, you aren’t really going to want to leave him in
one spot long enough to do that. The key to Cade’s
success in your squad is keeping him moving and
letting him heal as much as possible and using
Essence of Life to safeguard some of your more vital
pieces.
100 POINTS: Though Cade doesn’t deal a lot of
damage, I can see him being a useful addition to New
Republic squads at this level because he’s a pretty
cheap healer. His Force Heal 20 will really help
extend the life of your beat stick and if you keep
him in close enough range to your beat stick,
Essence of Life could wind up being really annoying
as long as you keep making saves. SCORE: 3
200 POINTS: Here, Cade becomes slightly more
effective just because he can help out more people.
The only caution I really have here is who you
include with him. Putting in either Jacen or Anakin
Solo would not be the wisest decision just because
their offense hinges on a Force user being killed,
while Cade’s main job is to extend the life of your
squad as much as possible. He’s a solid healer and
in a pinch can fight, though if you’re fighting with
Cade, you’d better either be needing to pull him
back from something that based him or most of you
squad is already been taken out because there’s
really no reason for Cade to be in battle all that
much. SCORE: 3.5
