Hondo Ohnaka (Galaxy at War,
36/40—Very Rare; HP 70, DEF 18, ATT 10, DAM 20, DEP
35)
For 35 points, you’re getting a really solid
shooter and an okay commander, so really this guy is
a pretty perfect representation of Hondo from the TV
series. He’s absolutely deadly with his blaster.
Accurate Shot
gives you a lot wider latitude with targeting so he
can be pretty deadly for your opponent’s utility
pieces. Then you add in his other shooting bonuses
and he just becomes sick and can dish out some
pretty impressive damage, even to higher level
characters. When you make him an early round
activation, you get to bring
Cunning
Attack +20 to bear raising him to a +14 to hit
for a whopping 40 points of damage. If you can leave
him safely in the same spot, you can also pick up
Deadeye.
If you can pull off all his bonuses, you’re getting
a +14 to hit for a whopping 50 points of damage.
He’s only got a single attack, but that’s still
really impressive.
As a pirate chief, though, he’s also a
commander. Unfortunately, his commander effect isn’t
really that great…yet. He gives
Accurate Shot to all followers whose name contains “Pirate.” Right
now there are only two pirates, the Weequay and the
Corellian and the Corellian already has
Accurate Shot.
While it’s nice that it can help out his Weequay
Pirate brethren, it’s a shame that his commander
effect is unnecessary for the other Pirate out
there. Hopefully, there will be a few more Pirates
coming down the pike as the universe expands so
Hondo can share his abilities a little more.
His stats are pretty solid overall and he’s
actually a pretty nice piece when you really look at
him.
100 POINTS: He can deal a pretty impressive amount
of damage in a single shot so he might not be bad
shooting support for your 40-50 point beat stick. If
you can position him properly, he can shoot for 50
points of damage at your opponent’s pieces
regardless of cover and as long as you have the
ability to use
Cunning
Attack even the beefy 100 point-dominating beat
sticks have something to fear from this unassuming
pirate chief. SCORE: 3.5
200 POINTS: Here, his damage-dishing capabilities
are just as important. I actually think he loses
just a little bit of effectiveness at this level
just because his commander effect doesn’t really
synergize all that well. If there were more Pirates
out there, he’d be golden but as it is, he’s just
not that useful as a commander at this level.
Admittedly, he’s still a pretty powerful shooter,
but there are others out there just as strong as he
is that don’t have the baggage of a somewhat useless
commander effect. SCORE: 3

Hondo Ohnaka
Cost: 35
HP: 70
Def: 18
Att: 10
Dmg: 20
Special Abilities:
Unique, Accurate Shot, Cunning
Attack +20, Deadeye
Commander Effect:
Followers whose name contains
Pirate gains Accurate Shot
Hondo is an interesting piece. At
35 points, he fits in the “too expensive for filler
but too cheap for main attacker” niche. His state
are actually pretty good for his cost. In fact, they
are nearly identical to Captain Rex’s (+2 defense).
Hondo sports a few abilities which
mainly focus on damage boosting. Accurate Shot is a very welcome addition,
especially on a Fringe shooter. Cunning Attack +20
is a great, but sometimes unreliable, ability. I’ve
never been too fond of Deadeye since it leaves you
right out in the open.
His CE……………is worthless. The only
two “pirates” currently in the game are the
Correlian Pirate and the new Weequay Pirate. The
Correlian already has Accurate Shot. So…for now
Hondo is stuck with the not-so-useful Weequays if he
wants to do anything with his CE.
In total, Hondo is an ok piece.
Not stellar, but not totally without use. Probably
to best place to use him is with the Rebels where he
can gain Mobile and Evade from
Rieekan. Another possible combination is with
Imperial Governor Tarkin for Extra Attack. Throw in
Thrawn and you can practically gurantee yourself two
50 damage shots from Hondo (Cunning +20 with Deadeye
and Double Attack)
100: 2/5 Not worth his price here.
Too little HP and too little damage output to
compete with the big
guns here.
150: 3/5 You’ve got some more
options here, though it might require you to build
around him a little. You probably would have to play
him more for fun than anything.
200: 3.5/5 Same as 150, though
you’ve got an extra 50 points to spend.
