Today we look at Vodo. For those that do not know
him, he was the master to Exar Kun. Once again we
have an Old Republic piece that while solid, brings
nothing spectacular to the table and is over costed.
For his points you get an okay health, decent
defense, solid attack and the standard 20 Dam.
For abilities, he has the standard double attack,
but his lone shining spot is that he has parry. He
will do well against all of the melee figs out
there, but will suffer to the shooters. Hopefully
his DEF with cover will help him survive some.
He has fixed force, unfortunately, but 5 fixed FPs
is good. It is probably more than enough because the
only thing he will ever use them for are parry
rerolls and missed attacks. He can defend against
close quarter crits with his alter, but that will
rarely be used. Force spirit 4 is a nice ability,
but it first requires him to die and then needs a
solid target. There are some. Lucien would be good
as would the Jedi battlemaster, but good players
will take them down first as they are bigger threats
than Vodo.
So that's it. As i said he is a solid piece, but
really doesn't bring anything uber about him, and at
44pts he can be a tad expensive. Another thing
people tend to over look is that Vodo does NOT have
a lightsaber or an ability with lightsaber in it. He
fought with a force-imbued staff, so he cannot get
around abilities that a lightsaber can such as DRx
and Dark Armor. He either needed better attacks,
some cool force powers, or just be 5-6pts cheaper to
be really good. As is, only play him in 200 and make
sure you bring plenty of back-up.
