The monster may be good, but the deck still isn’t. Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus is a Rank 12 Light Machine-Type XYZ Monster with 3600 Atk and 3200 Def. The stats are certainly boss worthy, and they had better be seeing as this requires 3 Level 12 monsters to properly summon. Wether proper or not, SQMKGM will try to Special Summon Super Quantal Mech Beast XYZ Monsters from the grave if they have different names upon being sent to the grave itself. Replacing lost resources is good, and there are ways of sending Extra Deck monsters to the grave without summoning. Then, depending on the number of differently named materials, SQMKGM will let you spin a card during either player’s Main Phase from the field to the deck at the cost of 1 material. However, the more you use that effect the less likely you will remain immune to card effects or lock out the opponent from adding cards to their hand from the deck. It’s six or more for the locker and 4 or more for the immunity. I do love that all the material effects don’t need Super Quant cards to work, so I can see this being more useful in Trains with a RUM card. I also laugh at the thought of Marshmallon walling this out in defense mode. Sure it could still be spun back, but it would be funny too. Run it if you play Super Quant, test it in other machine decks just to see what could happen. Happy Friday!

We end the week off with a Super Quant card as they are getting support in the middle of the year in Dark Neostorm, so I thought it was fitting that we look at their big boss monster, Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus.

Great Magnus is a Rank 12 LIGHT Machine Xyz with 3600 ATK and 3200 DEF. I expect high stats on a Rank 12, so 3600/3200 is good considering it isn’t hard to summon this, LIGHT and Machine are great assets as well. The summoning requirements are 3 Level 12 monsters, which the next time that happens is probably the first time that happens. Instead, you’ll probably use Super Quantal Mech Ship Magnacarrier to use 3 different Super Quant Xyzs on your field or in your GY to go into this, we have 3 right now but we will get a 4th. If this card is sent to the GY, you can Special Summon any 3 Super Quantal Mech Beast Xyz monsters with different names from your GY to give you some more field presence and to maybe go into the Super Quant Link-3 from Dark Neostorm if you don’t already have that on the field. This card gains effects based on the number of Xyz Materials with different names it has attached.

2+: Once per turn, during either player’s Main Phase, you can detach a material from this card to shuffle a card on the field into the deck.

4+: This card is unaffected by other card effects except Super Quant effects.

6+: Your opponent cannot add cards from their deck to their hand by card effects.

The first effect for 2 or more materials with different names is great, as I mentioned with Tiaramisu yesterday. Spinning to the deck without targeting makes a card hard to get back to for your opponent, especially if this card has 6 or more materials with different names. 4 or more materials makes this unaffected by anything that isn’t a Super Quant card, so in the mirror match Magnaliger can destroy this, but the mirror match won’t be common, so you are basically safe. That effect was just a sign of the times when Konami liked making cards unaffected by card effects, but that makes those cards stand up better in 2019. Finally with the 6 or more locking out adding cards from the deck to your opponent’s hand via card effects, this effect is good on Thunder Dragon Colossus, so why wouldn’t it be good on a bigger body that is unaffected by everything that isn’t Super Quant and recurs 3 monsters when removed? Great Magnus is a great boss monster in the Super Quant deck, it isn’t hard to summon in the deck either, and is a good back-up plan with the Field Spell if you don’t want to make good use of the Super Quant Xyzs that’ll probably have quick effects if you use the corresponding Super Quant as material. A great card for a really fun archetype.

Advanced Rating: 4/5

Art: 4/5 It’s a mix of the three other Super Quant Xyzs we currently have, and it looks so cool.

Where to start with this card…Rank 12 XYZ Monster, just think about that for a minute, and one that needs three Level 12 Monsters for an XYZ Summon.  Then look at that name (takes breath) Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus.  Light and Machine are phenomenally supported, 3600 attack is good (as is the 3200 defense) though you might expect more from a Level 12…

On that note, there are 30 Monsters in the OCG/TCG English game that are Level 12, and 15 of them have more attack than this.  I was curious about that.  This card is an asset to you as an attacker itself, but has some versatility as to what it can do with its effects via the number of XYZ Materials on it.  You’ll note the effects are cumulative based on this, which we appreciate given the Summoning

2+ Lets you Detach an XYZ Material to shuffle a card on the Field back to the Deck of its owner.  Bounce is a wonderful tactic, and can be more effective than destruction.

4+ Grants you immunity to card effects outside of the theme.

6+ Your opponent is prevented from adding cards from their Deck to their Hand via card effects.

Note these XYZ Material all have to be differently named, but as you see, this is disruptive, as well as protective, and then a soft lock-down effect to further slow and shut your opponent down.  All while his towering 3600 attack.  Additionally, in closing, if this card is sent to the Graveyard, no stipulation as to how or by whom, you can Special Summon three differently named Super Quantal Mech Beast Monsters from your Graveyard.

Those likely were used to assist in bringing out this card, but regardless, this thing is a brute of a Monster, and wonderful support for a theme that does a hell of a lot, and is very powerful.  I like this card.

Rating:  3.75/5  Difficult, but useful, and fun too
