Saikyo Cardfighter R Ah, yes, this. I have a sort of complicated relationship with this card. There’s no Counterblast cost. Instead you go -1 from the hand to inflict one damage. Is it worth it? Barely. It’s useful to get the opponent from 3 to 4 damage suddenly so that guarding suddenly changes and you can destroy more hand that turn, but all in all if it’s time to Stride first and the opponent’s on 2 or less, Excend Grave’s probably the better G-Unit to lead with. The GB3 is also neat if it’s there, but I found it was only relevant for situations where nothing else can attack as it is (maybe because of Chaos matchup or whatever). As far as destroying more hand goes, Zeigenburg in a vacuum would eat more hand. That’s annoying when Burning Horn Evolute and Grow Heater Dragon don’t power up unless your Vanguard is this or the Ace. Also not a fan of how this forces you to pay the cost of damaging using Stride fodder from your hand. All in all though, this is a 2-of in Overlords, although the GB3 is generic so one can be teched in Blademaster as well. 2.75/5 |
What’s up, Rogue Squad?! So for today’s Card of the Day, we get to look at the new “ultimate” form in the Overlord (because let’s face it, almost every new Overlord form is considered its “ultimate” form) in The Purge, and to be honest, Purge isn’t too shabby. Yes, it does require you to lose a potential Stride cost in an Overlord G3, but when you take in account what the Overlord deck can do in recycling Overlords by Soul Blasting with Evolute, sending them back to the deck with High Flame or even Defeat Flare just to have them searchable targets for The Destiny, getting to deal a free damage with no trigger effects is pretty good. That’s also not adding in The Purge’s GB3, where he gets a number of Drive Checks equal to the number of damage your opponent has, so the best case scenario is to put them at five with Purge’s first skill and getting a free Quintet Drive. Personally, Purge is an easy 2-3 of in an Overlord deck and maybe even a potential 1 tech in non-Overlord builds just for the free Quad-Quintet Drive.
