Teardrop the Rikka Queen – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

We end Rikka week off with the boss Xyz of the archetype and one of my favorite artworks in the game now: Teardrop the Rikka Queen.

Teardrop is a Rank 8 WATER Plant with 2800 ATK and DEF. Good stats on Rank 8 on top of a good Type and Attribute. The summoning requirements are any 2 Level 8s, meaning it’s generic. It’s first effect lets you detach a material from her to target a monster on the field and tribute it. Interesting removal effect, it does target but not destroy. Instead, you get tributing. Now, there’s a few things of the opponent you wouldn’t want to tribute still. Hieratics come to mind. With that said, tributing gets you around effects that trigger on destruction, which is great. You can also tribute your monsters if you need, so keep that in mind if it comes up. This effect does become a Quick Effect if you have a Plant as material, which Sylvans and Rikka can do alongside using your Plant Princesses. Either way, the tribute effect is a hard once per turn, which is fine for the removal, but makes going for 2 of this not as optimal. The second effect boosts this monster by 200 ATK for the turn each time a monster is tributed, so this easily boosts herself to 3000 ATK and even beyond. I wish it stuck around, but it still has a decent 2800 ATK. Teardrop is honestly a good Rank 8 monster for that arsenal, it’s worth trying in that regard. When it comes to Rikka, it’s a multiple since they can make this a Quick Effect and they typically have to summon Plants.

Teardrop is easy to Summon and has a powerful removal effect. Her attack is fair as well.

This is definitely what a boss Monster should aspire to be. I feel that there are many cases when Teardrop is a hard win-con. Being able to Tribute away any threat at any time is intimidating.

This card plays well with Lonefire Blossom, both before and after being summoned, as it can benefit from the multiple tributes or from the easy retrieval of Level 8 Plants.

The balance comes from the dedication needed to XYZ Summon it, the HOPT and the restriction of 2 uses before running out of XYZ Materials. Of course, getting this card out on Turn 1 of a duel can spell disaster for your opponent, as 1 turn of monster removal is probably plenty to gain momentum.

The art of this card is really well thought out, and being a Secret Rare really works for the design in whole.
