Hello Pojo Fans,
Tearlaments Kitkallos is the first of two Fusion Monsters we’ll look at this week.
Easiest of the Tearlament Fusions to summon, needing only a Tearlament monster and an Aqua monster, like another Tearlament, Kitkallos upon her Special Summon (Monster Reborn, CoTH, Instant Fusion, etc.) can do a Reinoheart from the Deck with the added benefit of adding the card to hand instead of sending it to the grave. Kitkallos’s effect makes her another searcher or Foolish Burial for the archetype and can trigger the traps within the archetype like Reinoheart without needing them to be in the hand like he does.
1-for-1 effect on the surface to Special Summon a Tearlament from your hand or grave and send the other monster of yours that you had to target to the grave. Within this archetype and even used within other archetypes this won’t be a 1-for-1. Each Tearlament (minus Reinoheart) will trigger a Fusion Summon upon hitting the grave, monsters within other archetypes will trigger searches or field advantage. If you somehow only got a 1-for-1 with this effect it would feel like a negative.
If Kitkallos hits the grave in any fashion she will give you a mill of five cards. Holy cow, there are a lot of archetypes that want that effect and Tearlaments are only one of them. Lightsworn and Shaddoll come to mind immediately. Within their archetype you have the potential of having all five milled cards trigger and that is something that really makes the archetype something dangerous.
Kitkallos is a great Fusion that can be used if you use Instant Fusion, or are adding Tearlaments to your deck. The more Tearlament support she has within the deck, the better she is. The mill when she leaves the field is tremendous grave interaction, she’s got a Special Summon ability for a Tearlament while being able to conceivably force a Tearlament to activate and perform another Fusion Summon, and she has a Tearlament search or Foolish Burial/Foolish Burial Goods effect upon Special Summon…Instant Fusion will get you at least two of her three effects. Why aren’t we hearing more about that?

We of course have to look at the Tearlament Fusions, and we’ll look at the one that’ll be Fusion Material for the archetype’s next boss monster: Tearlaments Kitkallos.
Kitkallos is a Level 5 DARK Aqua Fusion with 2300 ATK and 1200 DEF. Stats are pretty solid for a Level 5, DARK is a great Attribute, and Aqua goes with most of the archetype. Fusion Materials are any Tearlaments monster and any Aqua monster, so you get room to run some generic Aqua monsters like King of the Swamp. First effect triggers on Special Summon, letting you take a Tearlaments card in your Deck and either add it to your hand or send it to the graveyard. Good options here to search the card for potential use or to just skip some steps and get said card straight in the graveyard for its effect there. The lone way the archetype can search the Spells they have coming up, alongside the Traps and monsters. Second effect lets you target a monster you control to Special Summon a Tearlaments monster from your hand or graveyard and then send the targeted monster to the graveyard, so some revival for your Tear monsters while also being able to trigger the effects of other Tear monsters when they’re sent to the graveyard, including herself. The final effect triggers if she’s sent to the graveyard by a card effect, letting you send the top 5 cards of your Deck to the graveyard, mostly in hopes to trigger your other Tearlament card effects. Hard once per turn on each effect, but it doesn’t take away from how powerful she can be. All of these effects really get the archetype going if you can get into it, which is easier considering she is an Instant Fusion target. She’s a Fusion you surely want multiples of in a Tearlament Extra Deck.

If Tearlaments Reinoheart is the “heart” of the deck, Tearlaments Kitkallos is the liver; it’s a level 5 DARK Aqua Fusion monster, which is normal for Tearlaments. You can Fusion Summon it with any Tearlaments monster and any Aqua monster, so while any two Tearlaments (sans two Reinohearts) can make it, you can also make it with King of the Swamp if you desire. Accessing Kitkallos is especially easy since it’s level 5, so you can even make it with Instant Fusion. For a level 5 Fusion monster, 2300 attack is actually quite good, though 1200 defense leaves a lot to be desired.
In my humble opinion, Kitkallos is the strongest card in this archetype, despite the lame pun I mentioned earlier. Kitkallos has three effects, each of them being hard once per turn but very potent. The first effect triggers if it’s Special Summoned, letting you either search any Tearlaments card or send it straight to the Graveyard. Going first, you will usually use this effect to search any of the Traps (Tearlaments Cryme, Tearlaments Sulliek, or Tearlaments Metanoise), all of which have their strengths. You can also search Tearlaments Merrli for alternative combo routes with Kitkallos’s second effect, which targets a monster you control to Special Summon a Tearlaments monster from your hand or Graveyard, then sends the targeted monster to the Graveyard. It’s a great way to get rid of any leftover Tearlaments monsters you have on the board, triggering their Fusion effects in the process, and it can function as an emergency combo if you don’t open enough Tearlaments monsters. Kitkallos’s last effect, big surprise, sends five cards from the top of your deck to the Graveyard if it’s sent to the Graveyard by a card effect. This is a big part of making the second effect a combo enabler, since there will be times where you’ll only open Tearlaments Reinoheart (the deck’s new support in Darkwing Blast helps with this). Kitkallos is a searcher, combo enabler, and combo extender all in one, and considering it’s a named Fusion material for an upcoming card, I don’t see it being banned any time soon, even if it really should be! Overall just an excellent, versatile card most archetypes would kill for.

Art: 4.5/5 There’s a fan theory that the Visas lore archetypes are loosely based on Disney properties in Kingdom Hearts; The Little Mermaid, anyone?
