Temporal Trespass never quite caught on in constructed tournaments, not like the similar cards it shared a block with. Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time have been banned in various formats, perhaps because they actively give you more things to do while Temporal Trespass often requires you to have something to do already. It is, of course, also nominally even harder to cast than those other two, but you have to be careful when assessing cards with delve: my rule of thumb is that they are always easier to cast than they look. You’d presumably be using a similar process to what you would with Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time, but would need to do it a little more. That extra time and fiddling might make it less popular in tournament play, though it can still surprise people at the kitchen table and elsewhere.

On a gameplay-free note, I was always a little surprised this card’s original art didn’t portray Sarkhan Vol. The term “Temporal Trespass” is actually a pretty good description of what he did in the Khans of Tarkir block’s storyline. I’m also actually quite happy we’re soon going to learn about what’s happened on Tarkir since then – Dragonhawk appearing in Bloomburrow is such a tease!

“Extra turn” is always an interesting starting point, even with a spell at eleven mana. Temporal Trespass usually won’t cast 11 mana…delve lets you pull this as low as three mana, and three mana is pretty reasonable. That said, 8 cards is still quite expensive on top of everything, and extra turns often tend to be a bit of an overrated mechanic. That said, this costing 11 mana has been spun into an advantage (like in decks with creatures like Yuriko, the Tiger’s Shadow) and can definitely be abused. It’s not the flashiest spell, but it’s still a competent extra turn spell that can spin its weaknesses into an advantage.

Constructed: 2 (it self-exiling does hurt here, and it’s still expensive for what it does)
