Hello Pojo Fans,

That Grass Looks Greener made 60-card decks back in the day something to be feared and is the Throwback Thursday choice this week.

While your opponent may have 40 cards, you would have 60 cards and do everything in your power to search out TGLG. It didn’t matter if you were locked down for the turn in regards to hand or field depending on how you searched for this one Spell Card: Left Arm Offering, Gold Sarcophagus, or just digging through to draw it, once you got it you were off to the races. The times when you would have this opening hand and would mill 20 cards and reap the grave effects off those cards sent to the grave, it made your opponent’s turn much tougher. Zombies, Shaddoll, Lightsworn, cards like Hat Tricker and Trick Clown, and at the time Fairy Tail – Snow were huge mill targets for this card and in other decks outside their archetypes. This card was overpowered and could win a game the turn it’s played or make the entire duel a formality if played on the first turn. It gave so much advantage, there was no conceivable way that a 20-card mill wasn’t going to end up good for you.

Nowadays you could discard Dimensional Shifter and smile as your opponent banishes the difference in cards between the two decks and likely get nothing out of the mill, but that is one specific card that is usually sided in after the first game…and that is only one card. Or something like Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood could cost you half your LP but stop any Special Summons from your opponent, unless they trigger immediately upon hitting the grave like Shaddoll Falco or Wulf, guaranteeing you LP gain.

This card likely won’t come back unless it gets an errata, it was just too powerful, could create too much, and was searchable.

Throwback Thursday gives us a card that would be useful for Tearlaments if it wasn’t banned in the TCG, while the OCG still opts to keep the card at 2 in their format: That Grass Looks Greener.

TGLG is a Normal Spell that if you have more cards in your Deck than your opponent, you can send the top cards of your Deck to the graveyard until the size of both player’s Decks are equal. It’s one of the few cards in the game that rewards you for running more than the standard 40 cards most Decks run, while also becoming more sacky since it’ll likely be in a 60 card Deck where you’re less likely to draw it. If you do get to it in your bigger Deck, you’re most likely getting a ton of cards in the graveyard to trigger a ton of different effects. It becomes a brick if you do run into another Grass player, since they’ll likely run 60 cards as well, so you want to have this against non-Grass players running standard Deck sizes. The amount of advantage it can generate is why the TCG keeps this banned, but running this card does likely mean you’re sacrificing consistency and the card in the format does mean 60 cards would become more common. It’d be nice to see back for the Decks that loved to run 60 cards to utilize this, and I don’t rule it out completely yet for it ever returning, but at the same time I can understand why it stays out of the game.

Throwback Thursday throws us another card before my time, but a card I’m quite familiar with; That Grass Looks Greener is a Normal Spell and isn’t once per turn, though generally it might as well be. Grass’s effect is simple, milling cards from your deck until it matches the amount of cards in your opponent’s deck (you can see why we’re covering it this week). The application is pretty obvious; in 60 card decks, you can send up to 20 cards straight to your Graveyard from your deck (as long as your opponent isn’t also playing a 60 card deck). If you’re playing Grass, odds are your deck is chock full of Graveyard effects, so this card’s power is no secret. Grass was infamously banned in Duel Links as soon as it was added, and in the TCG it was banned in 2018 not too long after it was imported, thanks to its role in powerful 60 card FTK decks. Despite this, Grass is sitting at semi-limited in the OCG, and while some top decks play Grass, they’re not super dominant, which is surprising given the prevalence of Tearlaments over there. Could Grass come back? It’s difficult to say, as outside of Tearlaments, mill decks have fallen by the wayside, and 60 card decks are inherently very high-risk and high-reward. Grass is one of those cards where I wouldn’t mind it coming back, but I would still be very cautious.

Art: 3.25/5 While it is pretty funny, I’m not sure what’s going on here; I would assume Snyffus and Nettles are having a Tom and Jerry moment, but I don’t know who Goblin of Greed is rooting for.
