First of all, I don’t know exactly what the designers had in mind when they made the clause about zero or seven cards in hand, but it somehow feels right. Gameplay-wise, seven sounds like it should never come up, but don’t forget that’s what people said about Library of Alexandria, too. Sometimes, when you have lots of options, you feel a need for just one more thing to consider and plan with. And while requiring mana to activate is a different game from its famous ancestor, the endless stream of cards is much the same. A properly constructed deck will hit way more often than the literal wording suggests, and lands with abilities can be very hard to stop.
Constructed: 4/5
Casual: 4/5
Limited: 4/5 (Strixhaven limited decks are often about fitting in as many relevant instants and sorceries as you can)
Multiplayer: 4/5
Commander: 4/5
I feel like The Biblioplex is sort of aiming for a loose homage to the Library of Alexandria, the notorious Arabian Nights card often called the “10th member of the Power 9”. This is certainly nowhere near Library’s power level, but it’s still powerful enough! Being able to potentially draw an additional card for 2 mana is nice, and this even lets you bin a card on top of your deck that does you no good. The hand limitation can be fiddly to work around, but the upside is still nice. I’m slightly irked that it’s not legendary, but legendary lands have always been more the exception than the rule.
Constructed: 3.5 (not sure if it’s fast enough to see play)
Casual: 4
Limited: 4
Multiplayer: 3.25
Commander: 3.5
