This week we
look at Nodes, and the Common Gearsmith Character
Basic Node starts us off.
With the near lowest cost/threshold in the game at 1
each, you get an expectedly week Character with 1
strength and 1 life. However, it is offset some by
its speed of 4. The best kicker of course lies in
it's ability, "When this card enters play, you may
search your deck for a "node" card, reveal it, and
put it into your hand."
Self replacing cards are good!
Now for the draw back (you didn't think it was going
to be all good for only 1 cost and 1 threshold did
you?)
The second half of Basic Node's ability, "If this
card is destroyed, destroy all other "node" cards."
While this drawback may seem too great a cost and
thus relegate Basic Node to the "not worth playing"
pile, you may want to think again. Believe it or
not, Nodes were seen at the Gen Con So Cal $5k
Constructed T8! Yes way!
In limited you wont likely get enough Nodes to
search for to really make him worth while. Then
again if he's destroyed, no one else goes with him!
In constructed, which would obviously place him in a
Node deck only, Basic Node is a necessity.

Basic Node
This card's pretty nifty. First off, its what we in
the TCG trade call self-replacing. When you play it,
you can search your deck for another node card and
add it to your hand. Now that can be another Basic
Node or one of the cards we're looking at later this
week.
Secondly, the card has four speed. 1 strength and 1
life is just about as bad as it can get stat-wise,
but considering the cost, it could be 0 strength.
On that note, the cost! The fact that this card only
costs 1 is astounding considering that it lets you
search your deck for any node card, an ability worth
several resources on its own, as well as having four
speed. That means you can play this card with a
Research Assistant or a Towering Researchmajig and
no actual resources.
Now for the negatives. If this card is destroyed,
all nodes are destroyed and vice-versa. With one
life, that's a serious consideration. None the less,
you can always stick some gear on it to increase its
stats. And Hidden Sandwich will help with the
destruction part.
