One-Legged
Hopping Pogo-Bear
I really wish they would have saved this for the
"best cards in the game" week. The Pogo-Bear is the
highest priced card in the game currently, with a
foil version selling about a week ago for $60.00.
Not bad for a draft pull huh? Time for the run down.
First off it has a threshold of 3 which isn't
terrible, and an awesome cost of ZERO that's right
as long as you meet threshold this card is free item
drop. Now that you have it on the field you can pay
2 to turn it into a 3/3/3. Not drooling yet? Ok, how
about you pay another 2 to give it covert at tactic
speed? Still not sold? How about we toss in an
ability that makes it nearly untargetable and pretty
much indestructible?
Now that I have your attention, I give you the
ability known as "Hide". For a measly 1 cost you can
turn Pogo-Bear back into an item. Now if your new to
TCGs you may ask yourself why would you want to do
this? Well the answer is that most cards have
effects that target specific things. A character can
only damage a character, and a removal tactic can
only destroy specific types of things, such as
blocking characters, covert characters, etc. Hide
nullifies these effects. Try this on for size.
Johnny has a Pogo-Bear on the field. Spike attacks
with his Sneaky Mansion for 12 covert. Johnny pays 2
to give his bear covert, and proceeds to block the
Mansion. Now before damage is issued Johnny pays
another 1 point, to use Hide. The Bear becomes a
item again and therefore is taken out of battle and
rendered immune to character damage. Johnny then
pays another 2 and the Bear is back in your face.
Like it more now? Darn straight you do. This card is
amazing, definitely in the top 10 cards in the game,
possibly the best card period. All this coming from
a guy who doesn't even play gearsmith.
Should you play this card? This is a tough question.
The card is great no doubt, but LOTS of noobs are
playing it because they saw a few decent players use
it well. Its good but you need to have decent
knowledge of the game to use it right, and even then
you have to master your resource management skills.
I recently pulled two of these in a booster draft
event and easily EASILY took second place. The only
reason I didn't win was do to an incredible micro
majig, strength in numbers combo.
PROS:
1. Almost unkillable by means of battle.
2. The bear laughs at character removal.
3. Zero cost means in mono gearsmith, its a first
turn card. With resources to spare.
4. It give gearsmith a much needed bomb character.
5. Its fun to say.
CONS:
1. Cost $20 - $30 bucks.
2. Resource management can become a chore.
3. Annialated by an item destruction tactics.
4. OWNED by Forget.
Draft: 5 / 5 (I wailed some faces)
Sealed 5 / 5
Con 5 / 5

Merry
Christmas, all, and do we have a treat for you
today! The review for the holiday is One-Legged
Hopping Pogo Bear. If the box is bigger than you
are, you might not want to open it...
In any case, the card. The cost of zero is deceiving
as it is far from a cheap card to play. First
there's the cost of making it a character, then
there's the three threshold. Let's not forget the
various other abilities. At the same time, it's
bloody hard to destroy because of its HIDE! ability.
Personally I don't like it. It's too much of a drain
on your resources than a character. At the same time
its longer lasting and has greater versatility than
any character. It's up to you really.
