Oct 6 Arena
Quarter-Finalist
We finish up our week with a heavy hitting Warlord
Character, Arena Quarter-Finalist.
There’s really not much to say about this card since
it has no ability other than to punish your
opponent. At a cost 7 with a threshold of 2, it’ll
be a matter of 4-5 turns before he’ll hit play
(barring any resource acceleration). When he does,
he’ll be an instant target for any kill or bounce
cards held by your opponent. With 7/5/3 stats, he’s
going to kill anything he fights against except
Dragon Tank (life 10), Union Leader (life 9), Dock
Sentinel (speed 4, str 5) and Vander Malagut (speed
6, str 5).
Since there are always going to be options of using
other beatsticks that also have some kind of
ability, Arena Quarter-Finalist will likely get cut
in favor of those characters in constructed. In
Limited, I’ll take a 2 threshold 7 strength
character any time I can!

Arena Quarter
Finalist
At 7/5/3, this character is rather hefty. The cost
of seven balances this out a little bit, but still.
Four strikes with this and an opponent is down for
the count. Unless of course you're dealing with
Banker. But my opinions of Bankers are best left for
another time and place.
The one think I don't like about this card is that
it only has five life. Now, five life isn't half
bad. But a Crazed Deputy and a Target Practice will
take this card down (if this card is blocking). Or a
Dragon Juice and.... anything with speed 3 or
greater.
If this card had four speed, that would make it
infinitely better. If this card were four speed I
would go knocking down doors to try and figure out
what idiot broke the card. As it is, you need to
expect to lose this card. One of the odd things I've
noticed about the game is that its usually better to
attack with characters with high life, and better to
block with characters with lower life. Not always
true, but often enough for me to give it out as the
least useful almost fact of the day.
None the less, it's a good card. Play it, especially
in Sealed. In Sealed its the big characters that win
games. This is one of those big characters. But I
hope no one ever uses Summary Judgement on your copy
of this card. It's painful.
