doc Today we look at the rare Rogue character Cheats McGuillicutty.

Pluck’s 3rd guise!

At a cost of 6 with threshold 2, this 2/1/3 is as easy kill. And expensive for such an easy kill too. So what do we get for taking the chance that this guy will live long enough to be useful? Let’s start at the top.

While Cheats is in play the top card of your deck is revealed at all times. For a cost of 1 you may place that card on the bottom of your deck, thus revealing the next card on your draw pile. For the cost of depleting Cheats, you may treat the top card of your deck as an extension of your hand insomuch as you can play it. Lastly, as with the other incarnations of Pluck, he has the Change Costume ability to search out another form of Pluck from your deck and put him into play in Cheats place. (Cheats goes back to the deck)

More on the “Cheat” ability to play the card on the top of your deck. Nowhere does it say “play it for free”, so ditch that thought right away. It will allow you to break normal rules like when you can play characters, items or locations, but it will not allow you to play resources at all. Why? You must follow the rule book on “How to play a card”. You never have the ability to play a resource. You have your faction’s “Resource” ability which allows you to play a resource, but the only types of cards you can play per the rules are characters, tactics, items and locations.

So how will Cheats be used? Only time will tell!

In limited, he might see less removal, but any removal will be aiming for him. In constructed, you might be better able to protect him and if so, having options like sifting through the top few cards of your deck each turn, even if you opponent can see them, seems amazingly valuable to me!

Ian Spiegel Cheats McGuillicuty

Here we are, with First Edition Part Two's Pluck. He's a double deception threshold character with a cost of six.

As his name suggests, he literally lets you cheat. His unique ability reveals the top card of your deck at all times, and allows you to deplete him in order to put that card in play.

He also lets you pay one to place the top card of the deck on the bottom. In combination, these two abilities allow you to stack the deck in some sense, providing you with the potential for incredible advantage.

In constructed, he's a very neat card that will fit nicely into some Rouge and Pluck builds. In constructed, he's another body that can serve as a substitute for resources allowing you to play another character.
